I really love Hepburn and love Breakfast at Tiffany's, but dislike Holly(perhaps because I can see some of myself in the selfishness). I see the movie more about being alone in the world and young and unhappy, which I can totally relate to. I see Hepburn as the ultimate brunette- and I aspire to look like her.

The racist parts of the movie are a blemish on a perfectly made up face.

I love the movie (I just fast-forward through the horrible Mickey Rooney parts) and I love the story. I view them as completely different things sharing a name, like that song by Deep Blue Something.

@MysweetuntouchedMiranda: going out on a limb to say the movie actually was pretty bad. It was stylish, to be sure, and hearing the Henry Mancini music for the first time must have been something.

But it's full of not very funny stereotypes, George Peppard's relationship with Patricia Neal is this side of vulgar, and the acting generally kind of stinks.

Now imagine if the French made it, with Catherine DeNeuve, Yves Montand, and Jeanne Moreau....

@Lizawithazee: The only way I can reconcile liking both the story and the movie is that they are very, very different things. I love the short story for its frankness and its inherent sadness; I love the movie for the glamour and the moment where Holly and Paul are at the strip club and she's in a little black short-sleeve sweater and tweed skirt, and very, very drunk.

@MissMaple: An obsession with Audrey and Breakfast at Tiffany's is very sensible.

I insisted my husband buy me a Tiffany's engagement ring because of my obsession. And number one on my list when visiting Manhattan was to go to the original Tiffany's, where she filmed the movie. No, I didn't eat breakfast there, and I couldn't find a gift for $10 or less (sterling silver telephone dialers are discontinued), but I did buy myself a necklace to add to my collection.

i am also glad that pictures of audrey made it so easy to tell the classy girl's college dorm room from the slutty girl's college dorm room (she'd have marilyn). My roommate bucked tradition and had pictures of both.

My boyfriend gave it to me for our first anniversary. And I just found out that my parents almost bought it for me two weeks ago. Both groups said that they thought I would really like it. They were right.

Probably my favorite movie, and the only instance I've found of enjoying the movie more than the book. I've personally had many bouts of the mean reds, and I see myself in her, in a strange way I can't quite place. Besides, everything was so damn glamorous in the movie.

Breakfast at Tiffany's, Princess Bride, American Psycho, Trainspotting, and Fight Club are the movies I know by heart. A strange mix, yes, but my mind is a strange place.

@disco2000: For me, it's Breakfast at Tiffany's@MissMaple: Yesssss, Roman Holiday. My god, Audrey Hepburn is too adorable to be human in that movie. I tried to get the haircut she gets a few years back, and it turned out really really bad for me. So not Audrey.

@girlleastlikelyto: I've taken her picture in with me to the salon before... It turned out ok, but my features aren't as delicate as hers, so it didn't seem all that Audrey either. I always wanted to look just like her, but I look much more like Anne Hathaway. Picture her with the Roman Holiday cut - she could probably pull it off, but it wouldn't scream "Audrey."

I never liked this movie at all. Holly Golightly seemed like an irresponsible brat. I didn't get the thing about eating breakfast in front of a closed jewelry store. Oh, and Mickey Rooney has a special place in Hell for his role in this.

But Audrey looked good in that dress. *shrugs*

@bellethellama: I didn't realize weak vodka existed. Gin actually sounds like it would be a great mixer for vodka, though I admit I'd only want to try it with slightly more expensive brands than I can afford right now.

I've taken to drinking well gin at bars, it's nicely flavourful without tasting like treeflesh (bourbon) or aviation fuel (vodka). But, yes, it would have to be ice cold, but without ice in it.

@aspiringexpatriate: According to Casino Royale (the book), he specifies a vodka that is higher than the standard 80 proof, so a 100-proof vodka is the way to go (but harder to come across, and obviously more expensive). Honestly, a decent gin and vodka go a long way for me, and Lillet makes the drink complete (it has a lemony flavor that white vermouth can't match).

I made the horrid mistake of watching the movie first and then reading the novel. The novel's Holly was a golddigging prostitute and kind of a slut. It almost tainted Audrey Hepburn for me.

Anyway, here's to hoping she did get those eight brazilian brats with Jose.

@TexasCrude: But she's still a gold-digging call girl and a little, well, not slutty, but not exactly conforming to mid-century mores, in the movie. That's why it's so insulting when Paul gives her his check after he sleeps with her -- he's saying that he thinks he's just another John for her. They evened the score in the movie by making Paul (who has no name in the book) a gigolo, too.

@girlleastlikelyto: In the movie, her profession isn't really specified. It makes it look like she just goes to dinner with the men and maybe implies that she sleeps with them too (I mean, she DOES get pregnant and this was taken out of the movie as to sort of not confirm that she sleeps around). As I see it, the content is A LOT more frank in the book.

I don't know, the 60's were really sanitized. If BAT had been made in the last 15 years, we'd of seen the pregnancy and probably accompany her to her meetings with her Johns.

@MizJenkins: Breakfast at Tiffany's is not her best film, but it's the one that best encapsulates the iconic Audrey Hepburn image. If you're looking to school yourself on Audrey,I would rent My Fair Lady, Funny Face, Charade and especially Roman Holiday.

And it's not as popular, but Two for the Road with Albert Finney is actually a really awesome relationship drama.

@MissMaple: Did you see the Simpson's on sunday? It was Two for the Road inspired. It's on Hulu if you want to watch.

Oh, and I'd add Sabrina to your list. I'm not sure I agree with your statement that it's not her best film... It may not be the best example of her talent, but it is my personal favorite, and I do think you are correct in saying it is the best example of her image.
