Hating Tracy Anderson AND women who lift weights and run? Is this comment thread my own personal Valhalla or what? All we need is some beer and some punk rock, and I am in official whynotshesaid heaven. #tracyanderson
while I think this woman is all kinds of shady, I have to admit - those bands in the video are sort of cool. Of course, I'd probably do one serious workout on them and then just use them like a grown up jungle gym. I don't think Tracy would like my lack of dedication to being "super-teeny-tiny." #tracyanderson
@budholly101: They would end up like all of my other exercise equipment: laundry hangers! In about a month, I'd totally have my delicates drying on those bands. #tracyanderson
@midwestdesigner: oh, definitely, and think how useful these would be! They're already up high on the ceiling, and they're elastic so they'll spring back out of the way. I think we may be on to something here... #tracyanderson
That is the most relatable I've ever seen Gwyneth. That video made me like her more than I did before. As much of a mess as Tracy is in her personal life, that looks like a truly kickass workout and I kind of want to try it out now. #tracyanderson
It never ceases to amaze me that Tracy Anderson is still working. She is such a transparent fraud. If the woman who introduced the world to the Kabbalah Center (allegedly) thinks you are fraud, you are in serious trouble. #tracyanderson
Dudes, I know this will not be a popular comment on here, and Tracy Andersons voice annoys me as must as the next guy...BUUUT I used some of her workout tapes when training for the London Marathon (so the training wouldnt make me bulkey, just lean) and they worked wonders. That is all. #tracyanderson
@bluebears: yep i was def in shape (because iv been running for years), but those tapes gave me a nicer bum, more defined legs+arms, toned back etc. I changed nothing else in my routine! #tracyanderson
@rd2uk: Yeah I have to agree. I have her mat workout DVD and its REALLY good. I let myself gofor a while ended up with flabby arms and unable to fit into my clothes and it helped bring me from jelly back into great shape fast. I'm an hourglass size 10-12 and I run, so I'm hardly a dainty tiny lady, but seriously her mat workout is great. #tracyanderson
@jrhys: @rd2uk: As a former modern dancer and martial artist (bad knees) I'd stack it up against Classical Pilates any day.
Not having looked at her routine, I'd still guess she stole some moves from Clara and Joe.
(The reason they use small and not big weights is because unless you train your core all the time, the human back can't support an excess amount of weight at the end of a lever like the arm or leg without strain.)
But I was born in Indiana, so I may just be biased like that. #tracyanderson
SERIOUS CARDIO IS STUPIDSTUPIDSTUPIDSTUPIDSTUPID......
/rage
You do cardio to promote cardiovascular health or you do it when training for endurance activities.
You do it to support actual fitness.
Doing cardio "serious" cardio six days a week is stupid and damaging to
your health. Cardio is the most ridiculous way of loosing weight or keeping weight off.
You want to stay in shape? You want to actually be fit?
Lift weights. Heavy ones. Don't use machines, use barbells and do compound lifts.
"But I don't want to get huuuge"
Don't worry, you won't. It's called "looking roided out" for a reason.
Youtube "Sarah Bertram: tough as nails", she is a competitive lifter. She is about the high mark for being muscular that most women will achieve doing compound lifts. Like squats, deadlifts, bench press, press, and the power clean, you know proper strength building lifting.
Now, you could get more muscular than her, but that would take lots of isolation exercises like curling in the squat rack. The other way to become more muscular than her? ROIDS LOTS OF ROIDS.
/rant against fitness pros and the cult like mentality they have about cardio. Sorry for careening off topic.
@brokenscope: Thank you. I remember watching that clip when it showed on Oprah originally, and I was like.. 3 POUNDS? 3 POUNDS? And her smug "NO woman should EVER lift more than 3 pounds". Um yeah they should if they want to be healthy and toned. Crazy lady. PS I want Sarah Bertram's arms. #tracyanderson
@thecameralovesyou: I find it odd when a computer science major, a nerd like me, who only really got fit within the last three years knows more about fitness than many people who get rich of fitness routines.
@thecameralovesyou: I agree. I hate it when people promote this "Oh, women should be SO AFRAID of bulking up! If you even pick up a weight that isn't pink you might wake up looking like a WWF wrestler!"
Women CANNOT bulk up without years, YEARS, of hard lifting on top of genetics at the very least. And yes, most women would have to take the 'roids.
I think this woman came up with a novelty workout, and when the novelty wears off, her moment will be over. The main trick, so far as I can tell, is just to make these women workout for hours and hours, most days of the week. #tracyanderson
maybe if they have to add heat and humidity those cardio workouts aren't as intense as purported. When I go for a run in 20 degree temps I know I'm sweating. #tracyanderson
@smashsparkle: I also claim to have been a Power Ranger (from 12:25 to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, on a school playground in New Jersey from 1993 to 1994). #tracyanderson
"when you're 35, you either starve yourself, or you do serious cardio. But there's no free ride."
Ahahahah, sucks to be you, Gwen. I just turned 35 and I run 10 miles a week and eat whatever the hell I want. Amazingly, I have not spontaneously combusted! #tracyanderson
@erinna: It depends, probably. I run about 10-12 miles/week (usua11y 3-4 at a time) at about a 9 minute mile pace, but there are plenty of step aerobic classes at my gym that will kick my ass and have me dripping sweat and short of breath only 1/2 hour in.
I think I've been running for a long enough time that it just doesn't count as serious cardio for me (which probably means I should go faster, but I really don't feel like it!).
@formergr: yeah- i know what you mean- i usually run 3 miles on the treadmill at about 6.5 mph and can do it fine. I did that monday, then I did a spin class on Tuesday and basically thought I was going to die, the instructor kept calling me out for having my resistence too low! #tracyanderson
@greatsheelephant: It's really not that impressive. I run about 3 miles, 3 times a week at a 10-min-mile pace. It's just 30 minutes of exercise, 3 times a week, like "they" (whoever they are) say you should get. My ass is still fat. :) #tracyanderson
@samarkand:
I have run 40 miles this week and I will be running 26.2 miles on Monday in the Dublin City Marathon.
Tracy can go boil her head.
*pats gently rounded pasta filled stomach* #tracyanderson
@fatmammycat: Good luck! I'm training for my first marathon and it is such a scary, intimidating thing. I hope yours goes well on Monday! #tracyanderson
@whynotshesaid:
Don't worry! You'll be fine. Once you've put the training in your body will handle it, the trick is to enjoy the day and the experience. The very best of luck to you. #tracyanderson
That clip on youtube was actually from an Oprah episode. She did a little segment about Gwyneth's workout routine and eating habits, etc.
Sad that I know this, but it's true. #tracyanderson
