    shit my hair looks like that when it's long. because I just wash it, comb it, and twist it into a bun. when it dries, it's somewhat curly. however it doesn't have as much body, probably due to my lack of extensions. but I suppose, as a short fattie, I should keep it short and straight? #hair

    Oh that is such bull. Tiny people such as Jennifer Love Hewitt had those waves, and fat people like Mama Cass looked gorgeous with hair that long and wavy. I think what he means is, "I'm too uneducated and inexperienced to work with someone outside my usual clientel." #hair

    Pshh. I want Blair hair.

    Anyway, giant hair isn't just for rich people. My sister, broke ass medical student, is case in point. All she needs is some backcombing, some Elnett and a straightener and she has the most giant and ridiculous hair around. I think she looks insane, but hey, she likes it, and I can't argue with her technique. She managed to curl my straight and thick hair once so that I had these gorgeous Blair curls for about three days--when I do it, it lasts half an hour. #hair

    @littlestu: Have you seen her hair? It's got about 12 different shades of blonde in it. You know that shit is expensive. My husband calls the color "Money" as in, "she's got money colored hair" #hair

    ::shrug:: Pretty much every girl out here in SoCal has this hair. It does nothing for me. I mean, it's nice hair, and kudos to her for either genetics or at the very least a good colorist (highlighting is often deceptively more complicated than it seems).

    Personally, I'm enjoying my prematurely gray/white hair. I get asked constantly how I dye it like this. I inherited by mom's hair, where the white hairs have "staggered" pigment which makes them look silvery white as opposed to dull.

    I sometimes miss my darker hair, but then I can always add stuff into this if I want to. Like my current blue/gray streaks. And it's unusual to have hair this gray and white at 30. #hair

    However boring or simple her hairdo may actually be, as somebody who didn't grow up with the type of female relatives who were interested in beauty routines, and who's had short-cropped hair since early childhood, women with long, flowy hair really are awe-inspiring and sort of mysterious to me. Isn't it heavy? Does your head get hot? Doesn't it tangle? How do you make it look like that? #hair

    If she lets her hair dry in a chignon, it must not be very thick. If I braid my hair or put it in a bun while it's wet, it will take over 24 hours to dry naturally and by then, it will smell mildewy.

    As for the assertion that all she does is let it dry and then it turns out that way, I call bullshit. For one thing, as she stated, she dyes her hair. Guaranteed, she spends a ton of time and money to make her hair look like it is all natural--which, is totally fine, though. Secondly, that show is styled to the hilt. Are we really to believe that prior to filming, a makeup crew does her face, while the hairstylist doesn't touch her hair? Finally, there was a NY Mag story about Gossip Girl not too long ago and they indicated that she was an absolute diva and wouldn't let anyone see her before her hair and makeup were complete. I'm just not buying it.

    @Tchotchke: That is very true. My hair takes forever to dry and I always have to leave it down whilst in the process, otherwise it gets that dreaded smell.

    As for the way it turns out - I think bullshit just because I can't imagine hair is *that* consistent. I get tons of compliments on my hair and I do nothing to it, and oftentimes it looks styled. However there are many times when I let it dry and it looks meh. For someone who is shooting everyday, I have to imagine a lot of times they need to do something to it. #hair

    @ElleL: That's my trick too! Never clamp, and away from the face. And to get volume: rub in some babypowder. And then hang your head upside down and spray a little Elnett (the best and almost cheapest hairspray around) and you're so rocking your hair for not that much money at all.

    @ElleL: I've also been loving pin curls lately. Use a curling iron then twist around your finger up to your head and pin. If you sleep on it and brush it out, it gives you Veronica Lake waves! #hair

    I have good hair, people sometimes ask if it's a wig (um....not sure if this is bad or good). I didn't have hair until 3.

    In any case, I am not "short," per se. I'm 5'5", and whenever I decide to grow out my hair, I always feel swallowed by it. So, I might agree that short women can't pull it off quite as well.

    The only woman I've seen who can rock it is Penelope Cruz, who is the same height as me.

    I will also recommend Lively's recommendation for curls, if you have naturally straight or wavy hair, that is. In the morning sometimes I will grab two large sections on either side of my head and twist them up, clipping them at the top. I look like Princess Leia but the results after drying are awesome. #hair

    @Penny: I'm short (5'3"), but I have never had issues with having long hair. I think the only times long hair doesn't work on short girls is when it's super-long and pulls the spectator's eye downward, or if it's very thick because it can be overwhelming. I have the latter problem. But also, that's usually remedied by a good haircut, not necessarily altering the length. #hair
