Another thing that may be a problem with Ann Taylor-they make clothes up to size 18, available ONLY online. I was told by a sales associate in a NY store that they rarely get stock in the store above size 12. And yes, I felt judged.

@lambchop123: Ann Taylor always struck me as a cousin of Talbot. The clothes were a tad more updated, but predictable and not particularly well made for the price points.

Ann Taylor would get more of my business by designing their "Loft" line for a slightly younger crowd. I would like to shop there more often for work because the clothes are perfect business casual and fit me well, however, I don't like to wear bright colors or huge floral prints--and I don't know many other people who feel like professionals when wearing such gaudy things. I was under the impression that ATL was a line for professional women in their 20s and 30s, so when I see some of prints and colors they produce, I can't help but wonder if I was misinformed.

All of a sudden, the ballroom fell dark! A scream pierced the night. The crowd panicked: bodies jostling, jewels clinking, booze spilling. With a buzzing flicker, the room illuminated once again.

"Mhfhdjsh!" Some unfortunate woman lay on the floor, a burlap sack enveloping her. Some gentleman stepped forward and removed it, revealing a disheveled Paris Hilton in a truly heinous sequin and feather mini dress, accompanied by high-heeled Converse and the carcass of a mongoose slung over her shoulder.

"Oh no!" a woman gasped, her society drawl quivering, "The Big Gunn has attacked again!"

The room tittered to silence. In the gloom, an echoing "Make it woooooork," could be heard.

Oh, thank god Ann Taylor came to their senses. They are pretty much the only place I can buy work clothes and for the past year their clothes have been sadly lacking in appeal. If you build it, they will come, Ann Taylor!

@Majrhoulihan: Seconded. When I was just out of law school I relied on both of these, but mostly Loft. The last few times I went in there the quality was so poor that I couldn't even justify paying clearance price for anything in there.

@fulanita: I tried on some cute short shorts at AT Loft last night, and the button was in a different place on each pair. Crooked zippers, wayward buttons, inconsistent cut- if I wanted to deal with that, I'd go to Forever 21. Sadly, AT Loft carries some great tall pants, so I'm stuck going there and to BR until other stores decide to carry stuff for the tall set.

I LOVE toys in babeland. I love how it's all well-lit and clean and out in the open and you dont have to go down any sketchy steps or ask weird sales people to take things out of cases for you. And how matter-of-fact they are about everything. Good for you Elle!

a question for design/fashion jezebels: are bathing suits easy to design compared to other common garments (coats, dresses,pants, underwear, etc)?

@merv: With the bathing suits, it really depends on the style of the suit. A bikini like Heidi is wearing in that photo is pretty easy, but other designs are more complicated. You have to be careful not to pucker the Lycra/Spandex and it can be difficult to figure out how to both support and flatter a figure to the fullest. Bikinis are probably easier than one pieces.

In order of easiest to hardest, I think it goes: dresses, underwear, bathing suits, pants, coats.

This is tiresome, but it is so environmentally irresponsible in this day and age to build a house that big. I know he's tearing down the 50,000 sq ft one and thats good and all but why on EARTH does he need 17,000 sq ft? The energy expended heating and cooling that place will be gargantuan.
