Oh god. I've been cut off from the internet and tv for the weekend, and I only just found out here. How terrible! I don't even know how to react, I'm just shocked.
Thank you, hortense. As many have said, a wonderful & touching obituary. She seemed like a great talent and she will forever be one of my favorite actresses because of Clueless. My heart goes out to her loved ones, especially her mother.
As soon as I heard she passed, I rushed over here to see what Hortense would say. As expected, it's thoughtful and a perfect encapsulation of how I feel.
As someone who was a teenager when Clueless came out, Murphy will always have a special place in my heart. What a tragedy.
I hope Ms. Murphy knew, on some level, how much joy she brought to the world. She may not have found sustained success as a rom-com lead actress, but judging from my own feelings and from the comments I've seen here on Jezebel, her work was well-liked, memorable and indeed cherished.
This sad news just makes me want to say "Nuh-uh, Uncle Hank!"
That is awfully sad, and indeed, very shocking. I saw the headline on Jez and literally gasped. I was thinking, "No way, she's way too young," but you know, I felt the same way about Michael Jackson.
I hope her family gets the privacy they deserve to grieve.
Does anyone remember Murphy's foray into music? I really liked this one.
@boxspelunker: Faster Kill Pussycat is AWESOME. I'm not normally that big on dance music, but when I first heard this song a couple of years ago, I couldn't get it out of my head. I think I'll add it back into my iPod's jogging playlist to honor her.
Y'all, I quote her lines from Clueless ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Like, all the time. "You're a virgin who can't drive" is in the top 10 quoted movie lines in my house. Her death would have been tragic either way, but it just feels so personal because of how much I loved her acting in two of my favorite movies. It will be hard to watch them in quite the same way, much like it is impossible to watch anything with Heath Ledger in it and not feel all melancholy and wistful when I do so.
Thank you so much Hortense for reminding me about her role in Girl, Interrupted. I remember when Angelina got all the hubub going around her role I always thought Brittany was overlooked. A part of me really wants to go find the DVD, but I'm not sure i can really take her final scene right now. Too close for comfort.

A heart attack occurs when the supply of blood and oxygen to an area of heart muscle is blocked, usually by a clot in a coronary artery.
Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops completely and no oxygen is delivered to the rest of the body.

A) A new job and career for my husband and me (he's unemployed; I'm only working two days a week)
B) An easy and painless hyperthyroid cure for my beloved 18-year old cat Eleanor Roosevelt Rigby Regal
C) A magic weight loss spell so I won't fell like an ugly little piggy all the time
That's not too much to ask?
Oh, and Kindle.

A long, long, long, LONG night with Jon Hamm, in full Don Draper get up.
Remember that scene in season one when he busted open the door and pinned Midge to the column and ripped off her sweater?
Just. Like. That.

Rest in peace.

I just watched the clip from Girl, Interrupted that Gawker posted and it gave me shivers.
