    FK OU! They moved into Mill in Tempe and tried to turn it into the Santa Monica Promanade. Rent went up and killed off all the live-music venues that had been there for 30 years. Not to mention the mom & pop clothing, record, skateboard, and odd gift stores. They landed and everything became a 10k-sq-ft franchise. Students don't shop there, so GTFOff campus. Your brief success was unsustainable.

    Today, Mill's got a lot of empty storefronts, but live music hasn't returned. The shells of unfinanced, unfinished hi-rise condos loom in the background. Thanks!

    @Jack_Burton: Mill is no doubt a disaster, but I was led to believe it was the fault of Tempe Marketplace and not UO.

    But yeah, as an urban studies major and (an on and off) Phoenix resident for the last ten years, i know of the desire to make everything the Promenade.

    @Scoithniamh: Mill actually died in the 90's, soon after Fat Tuesday's and UO moved in, but the shopping center it turned into took a while to develop rigor mortis.

    The Marketplace was the direct competition that killed off the giant stores that had killed Mill - the nails in the coffin, if you will.

    How does a book store (Borders) on a college campus fail? When it is located on overvalued real estate in comparison to its' revenue. Ultimately, mall-shoppers buy more crap-books than college students buy premium books.

    I love the cutesy, Lolita inspired look. However, I am too baby faced and short to pull it off without ending up looking like a creepy little girl, and will probably be too young looking to pull it off until I'm actually too old to pull it off.

    My absolute favorite thing about Urban Outfitters (and Anthropologie's): their website has reviews of all the clothing. I think that's a wonderful idea. It's saved me from buying some crap in the past.

    And, it's one of the few places where I'm totally cool with people posting their measurements.

    I am a fan of the dress in 10, and the lower left corner of 11. I like it when there's business around the stomach and not the breasts; I feel it works with my apple shape and big juggs.

    #s 7 and 8. All the way. When I started receiving UO catalogs, I was really unimpressed, but lately I've had some lusty feelings toward a few of their things. Those suede heels, especially.

    The first picture reminds me of the morning-after-the-party scene in 200 Cigarettes.

    The subsequent pictures remind me that I can't wear anything UO makes because I am not a waifish teenager.

    The polka dot dress is cute. However, I tried it on and if you have boobs of a notable size, take heed: the polka dot pattern creates an optical illusion whereby you look like Pam Anderson. Not cute.

    @Tchotchke: That's why I question everything at UO...I want them to give me an example of how their clothes look on something other than a twizzler. No offense to twizzlers, but, I don't want to drive out to the mall just to be disappointed.

    @the glamwich: I always experience the same range of emotions with that store. I get the catalogue, pick out some things that I really like, head to the store excitedly, then get into the dressing room to discover that they make nothing for my tiny, petite frame, and monstrous knockers, and promptly feel bad. It's a store for people between 5'6"-5'9" for certain.

    @Tchotchke: I'm between 5'6" and 5'9" and properly could be identified as a Twizzler (although, fyi, sometimes we prefer "Pixie Stix" as our designations) and the bulk of UO clothes look hideously ill-fitting on me. On everybody. It's one of those stores (ala Forever 21 and H&M) where only one in five hundred things will look good on any given person. And you have to forage harder than a deer in winter to find it. But then sometimes you do.

    @moosesanddeers: Yes. I'm pretty much straight up and down (slender with no boobs, no hips, no ass, but some shoulders!) and things from UO generally look awful on me.

    @moosesanddeers: You're right. I love their flannel shirts and occasionally find cute mini skirts, but in general, their clothing is cut for Salvador Dali figures, not real-life women. I'm 5'3" and really petite and half the skirts I try on there don't even cover my crotch. Who is wearing those skirts? And if they are, why don't I see more labia in New York? Bizarre.
