Amy Dickinson posted a response to the rape victim. She regrets her harsh wording. [www.chicagotribune.com]

    Monumental Epic FAIL!

@amazoncowgirl: Yeah the response still rubbed me the wrong way. It still reeks of victim blaming, and just as bad, painting women in college as poor, defenseless creatures. Exhibit A:
As a mother (and stepmother) to five daughters -- four in college -- I have counseled (and worry about) all of my many daughters because of how vulnerable they are if they choose to drink.

@pantsless economist...access RESTORED: And yet, she continues to blame the victim.

    Feminist rage activated!

Dear world: A rapist raped. It was not her fault. Drinking =/= a License to rape. Going to a Party =/= License to Rape.

Seriously, the main factor here was that her rapist raped her. It was not her fault. It was the rapists fault.

@curiousgeorgiana: I clicked on the link a little dubious that my belief that she was a self-opinionated windbag was about to be refuted. Little did I expect that she would actually take the step from "you caused your own rape due to bad judgement" to "you said you didn't want to have sex, but you did anyway".

Because even if it's rape, it's still sex??? How does that compute?

And this woman is raising girls of her own? God help them.

@curiousgeorgiana: Very hard. If you acknowledge rape culture, it means you actually have to say something about it because you realized that maybe it's a bit screwed up that women can't go out without the threat of rape and men can.

God, it's too early in the day for this. Excuse me while I go pretend that things are all alright with the world and that rape culture doesn't exist.

Latoya, can we please discuss this further on Jezebel?
I really hope you have not entirely given up discussing race matters here, and I understand that you feel some topics are better discussed on different platforms.
But it seems to me that the need to attack political correctness and perceived or tangible accusations of racism in a manner Ms. Palin would be so proud of, still shadows whatever point these people are trying to make about the bill specifically.
I just know that most feel they are not racist... and may even have a black friend to prove it ?
I think commenter Annie has a more eloquent way to express the cringe-worthy factor of this pointless ad.

During the 1960s, Wilson became a regular at the Apollo Theater in Harlem and was a favorite guest on The Tonight Show, Laugh-In, and The Ed Sullivan Show. In 1970, Wilson got his own television program, The Flip Wilson Show, debuting on NBC. He played host to many African-American entertainers, including The Jackson Five, and performed in comedy sketches. He greeted all his guests with the "Flip Wilson Handshake," which started with hand slaps and progressed to hip-bumps. George Carlin was one of the show's writers along with him. His characters included Reverend Leroy, pastor of the Church of What’s Happening Now; and his most popular character, Geraldine, whose line "The devil made me do it" became a national expression.

In 1970, Wilson won a Grammy Award for his comedy album The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress.

A routine titled "Columbus," from the album Cowboys and Colored People, brought Wilson to Hollywood industry attention and would lead to the development of his own television show. In this bit, Wilson re-tells the story of Christopher Columbus from a slightly 'urban' perspective, in which Columbus finally convinces the Spanish monarchs to fund his voyage by noting that discovering America means that he can thus also discover Ray Charles. Hearing this, Queen Isabella, sounding not unlike Wilson's celebrated "Geraldine," says that "Chris" can have "all the money you want, honey — You go find Ray Charles!!" When Columbus departs from the dock, Isabella is there, testifying to one and all that "Chris gonna find Ray Charles!!"

The Flip Wilson Show aired through 1974, generating high ratings and popularity among viewers and winning strong critical acclaim, with an unprecedented 11 Emmy Award nominations during its run, winning two. Wilson also won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Television Series.

Wilson went on to make guest appearances on numerous TV comedies and variety shows, such as Here's Lucy starring Lucille Ball and The Dean Martin Show among others. Ed Sullivan invited Wilson to perform several times on his popular Sunday night show, and Wilson would later single out Sullivan as providing his biggest career boost. Wilson acted in TV and theatrical movies including Uptown Saturday Night and The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh. In 1976, he appeared as the Fox in a television musical adaptation of Pinocchio, starring Sandy Duncan in the title role and Danny Kaye as Geppetto, with songs by Laugh-In composer Billy Barnes.

Little bit of a hubbub brewing over a collection of science writing aggregated by Richard Dawkins that includes 3 women authors out of 83 total. He has a rationale (which I still find shortsighted), but his condescending response to the concern over the lack of female representation is alarming, I think. [scienceblogs.com]

    Attention: Commenters!

That big text box on the front page that says "Let your fingers do the talking" next to a button that says "Share" is not a search tool! It is your direct connection to #tips. Whatever you type there will go directly to the tips hash. The search bar is in the upper right corner of the Jezebel page.

I read the tips hash fairly often, and there are usually a few interesting links buried in there. For a while, I just thought that people were, well, dumb for putting only the word "gaga" as a tip, or "jersey shore" or "tiger woods" or whathaveyou. But no, I think those are just failed search attempts.

So, please, feed the tips hash. Include good links with succinct explanations. Even if the editors don't extrapolate on your finds, some of us commenters are enjoying them just the same. And please don't try to use it as a search tool.
