Tomorrow will mark 20 years since the Polytechnique massacre in Montreal. Before school shootings were common, 14 women were shot basically because they were women. The killer felt that women entering the engineering school had essentially ruined his life. He corralled the men outside the classroom before he executed all these bright young women. Tragic, and not least of all because of the distressing misogyny of the act. See here for some discussion, including how some of the survivors coped (and failed to cope) in the aftermath...
