    This may, of course, not be over. Coleman can appeal to the US Supreme Court. It might be a good thing. It's really problematic how there are no clear guidelines as to what counts as disenfranchisement and what degrees of voter discrepancy are acceptable. Obviously, in a modern democracy there is a margin of error (I believe most election theory holds that you can/should be able to get to about 0.05% accuracy) and every now and then an election falls into that margin of error. We'll never know who actually got more votes (though we've known for a while that Franken won the election), but it's frustrating that there is no precedent or federal guide line that clarifies at what point people's write to vote is infringed upon.

    @JudastheObscurest: I think there should be federal standards for voting guidelines, too. It mystifies me why this is a state issue. SCOTUS said disparities within FL was an equal protection violation, why not disparities between the states?

    But guys! It was ACORN! They aborted fetuses and forced gay marriage and fraud fraud fraud! I saw a rather specious looking fellow claiming to go by the name of Alvin at the Supreme Court building today. And he wasn't wearing pants, which makes it even more shady.

    Yes, this is OT, but damn it, I love that picture of Al Franken, because he looks so much like my dear, deceased Great Uncle Bob (great in all ways).


    I'll make it ON-topic by saying this: I think that Uncle Bob would have been very irritated indeed by the GOP's shenanigans on this front.

    Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota's other Senator) told Rachel Maddow that if Franken wasn't actually sworn in by the 4th of July, then she would finally get mad! Phew!

    well, i would guess this is headed to the SCOTUS, and the Repubs will get a stay, again, until that case is resolved (any doubts about how *that* will go?~)

    @Caerolle: SCOTUS may likely not take it up, as I believe they made their belief of federal involvement in state counting of ballots pretty darn clear.
