I cannot respect these people in the least. I *might* reconsider if I had any evidence that they protested EQUALLY against abortion, capital punishment and war. After all, if they believe abortion is wrong then they should acknowledge ALL 'government sanctioned' killing is wrong.

When I think of the combination of their narrow mindedness with the conservative's traditional lack of support for social programs I go on rage overload.

I wish these people put their energy towards human trafficking, so many actually living children end up in lives worse than death. They'd be my heroes if they directed that anger towards traffickers and pimps and the Johns who have sex with children. But being so judgmental, they'd probably blame the children for being too provocative and bringing it on themselves...

You know, I'm going to play the conservative here, just for a minute. Not every pro-life supporter is like one of those people in the picture, holding up pics of dead babies and cursing women as they make a difficult choice. Some people truly believe that life starts at conceptions and for them, abortion is wrong. I, myself, sit on the fence about this issue. The problem is not pro-choice is right and anti-abortion is wrong, the problem is that it is a PERSONAL choice, not a choice dictated by the state or federal govt.
Plus, I believe if people invested in this issue would focus on the underlining problems here (poverty, lack of proper sex education, etc) and make a difference there, that the number of people having abortions would decrease. Outlawing abortion is like putting a bandaid on a severed arm. Serious reconstruction is needed.

@Cole23: Well, conservatives are pretty much the only ones totally unwilling to address poverty and provide proper sex education, so... If you want less abortions you don't outlaw them, you teach people how to NOT have to have one, this does not include abstinence only education for the ENTIRE country.

@Cole23: I don't want to drown the discussion in semantics, as this point has been discussed pretty thoroughly in a lot of threads on this topic, but--

If a person believes that abortion shouldn't be outlawed and that every woman has the right to make her own choice, then that person IS pro-choice. Even if that person would never have an abortion, even if that person wishes there were ways to reduce the number of abortions being performed.

On another note - thank you for the link. It's not for the squeamish, but it is what it is, and knowledge is a good thing.

@Cole23: I think though, that what you are describing is pro-choice. I am not comfortable with the idea of abortion, so you know what, I won't have one. But I'm much more uncomfortable with imposing my beliefs and value system on other people.

The above makes me pro-choice, not anti-abortion or pro-life. To qualify as anti-abortion or pro-life, you have to want to remove that right from other people. I think you need to relabel yourself. Clearly you believe in giving people informed choices and the resources to make those choices (aid them in not getting pregnant when they don't want to for example).

Honestly, do you have any idea how many times this very discussion has been had on this site? A self-described pro-lifer comes along, says not all pro-lifers are like this, and then proceeds to describe how he or she is actually pro-choice. It happens at least once a day, I swear.

There was a post on Balloon Juice wondering when conservatives were going to start calling for enhanced interrogation techniques to be used on Roeder to find out about these "similar events." The hypocrisy of those on the extreme right is astounding, isn't it?

I wish I could send some of this stuff to my mom, so she would know just what these people are like, and just how critical abortion rights are. But I can't make her think about something she doesn't want to think about, just like she can't make me go to church.

Part of me wants to write Dr. Hern and thank him for being so awesome. He really could just step down, and it would probably be safer for him, but he's refusing to give in to the harassment, violence, and terrorism that the other side is dishing out.

Part of me realizes, though, that he probably doesn't want any address where he could get mail publicized.

After further inspection, I have a few questions about this picture. First of all, did that woman perform 10 abortions with an American flag? Second, did she defame a flag by cutting it up into halter straps for her fetus blood soaked apron? Third, how can one person hold four signs? And finally, what kind of Christian (I am 99.5% sure this woman would claim to be one) thinks God hates any human?

They're whiny because, for them, their antichoice movement gives them an identity that they can cling to. They have no real sense of self, and instead of looking inside to determine who they are as people, they throw on the mantle of their movement, claim God's on their side, and shove their "righteous truth" into other people's faces. The murder of Dr. Tiller has exposed the hypocrisy of their movement and, in a nutshell, shattered this flimsy identity, and now they're whining because now they are exposed for what they really are. They are being forced to find a new identity or rebuild their broken one, and there's little chance of the latter because we've all seen the man behind the curtain.*

In sum: they whine because they are pathetic, stunted babies who never grew up or matured, and use dogma and rhetoric (and murder) as camouflage.
