The dating site for the terminally ill reminds me of a brief series of columns in UK Grazia, written by a terminally ill young woman. She was a single mother and explained how she had recently met a man who was not ill himself and was proving to be her rock. She hoped to marry him and arrange for him to become the guardian of her son when she died. Then, shockingly, she wrote a few weeks later that he had walked out on her, complaining that she was too wrapped up in her own (terminal) illness to be able to properly attend to HIS needs.

After the husband set his wife on fire because he was a drunk and interpreted her friendliness with infidelity, she "enveloped him in a bear hug." He ran out the house and "staggered to a friend's house two streets away." The friendly "refused to open the door." Passer-byers refused to help the burned husband too.
Arul lay on the roadside for more than half an hour till police personnel noticed him...."Doctors told us that Arul's injuries probably became worse since he lying unattended on the roadside for a long time," a senior police officer said.
Thank God no one cared to help this piece of shit of a man.

@Sophie (no longer) needs to study...celebrate!: On the other hand, I am now reminded of the one time some douchenozzle engaged in an honor killing in Germany. He set his wife, a young woman who had divorced him for his abuse, on fire in the middle of the street. In front of their son. She actually burned to death there and the sidewalk is apparently still scorch-marked and no one helped her.

I doubt the reaction of the passerby had anything to do with him being a POS or not. Sigh.

@Sophie (no longer) needs to study...celebrate!: That's what I thought--especially upon reading that she turned his crime on him. My reaction was, THAT'S WHAT YOU GET, YOU FUCKING STUPID ASSHOLE, AND LET THAT BE A LESSON TO THE REST OF YOU ACID-SPRAYING/KEROSENE DOUSING BOYFRIENDS AND HUSBANDS.

But more than anything...I wish this shit didn't go on. I'm more bemused than glad his neighbors didn't help...

But then again, hell, that asshole didn't NOT have it coming. He didn't anticipate her turning the tables on him. Did they refuse to help because they thought he was an abusive SOB and got his just deserts?

If nothing else I'm glad the neighbors TRIED to help her...y'know, AFTER she'd actually be set on fire, instead of BEFORE, when the abuse was just beatings.

In a place or region where men can regularly douse women in acid (and easily obtain it, too) or flame, I suppose the neighbors couldn't or wouldn't expect the police to help until a woman was literally burning to death, even if they suspected something was amiss. Maybe they wanted to help before something like this happened but had nothing to go on? What would they expect the police to do if all they had to say was, "We think so-and-so is getting drunk and beating his wife regularly?"

@gerbilsoutofexile...is cheap and easy: My cats aren't poop eaters, and the few times they've thrown up, it's not been very bad at all. More like watery bile stuff, though the little one doesn't chew well enough and things come up mostly whole without any liquid stuff at all. I remember haaaaating cleaning up dog puke though. It would make me gag.

My bf was laughing on saturday because I actually woke up from hearing him retch and jumped out of bed to move him from the carpet to the hardwood floors---easier to clean up! That's how accustomed I am to it.

my sister's cat pukes and then eats the vomit. Her vet said its good for him. It's revolting to watch.

I just figured she was trying to clean up the mess the only way she knew how. Also, so glad she doesn't eat poop. Although, it would be nice if she covered it up with litter on a regular basis.

@gerbilsoutofexile...is cheap and easy: 9 cats and 2 greyhounds here. We have a couple cases of cat puke daily. The dogs are positively disgusting. They will rush to the cat whenever they hear the 'glurp' and practically mug the poor feline until it vomits.

I believe if the cat is on a table they would position themselves strategically underneath, like baby birds, for a mid-air catch.

@gerbilsoutofexile...is cheap and easy: I have never met a cat that would eat the vomit or feces of another cat. I think fastidiousness is instinctual in cats--they're descended from wild cats that survive by being stealthy, silent, and almost odorless.

Cat vomit can be kind of icky, but it doesn't smell the way human barf does, and it's usually kind of small and localized. I love dogs, but I'm definitely more of a cat person. They're generally rather low-maintenance and clean.

I hope your puppy is feeling okay! Barf is never fun to clean up, no matter what kind of creature it comes from.

@gerbilsoutofexile...is cheap and easy: I have three dogs, too. Two of them will eat each others' poop and cat poop and vomit of any sort.

The one of these that likes to lick hands, I never allow to lick me until I clean his mouth just in case.

We've tried those "forbid" things and they were useless. The only thing that keeps them from eating poop is making sure they don't have access to it.

Cats are cleaner for the most part until they get old and they kind of get into a "proforma" cleaning regimen...miming covering their poop and stuff. And as I mentioned above mine was hyperthyroid and vomitted from time to time.

My daughter's cat is like a slot machine. Sometimes she uses the litterbox for long periods of time and then now and then pees on the bed or clothes on the floor. And she's young and physically healthy. Suggestions requested.

@Tart of Darkness: RE your daughter's cat, mine does the same exact thing. I've pretty much pinned it down to the fact that we have 4 other cats (including an extremely aggressive male who tries to control everyone using fascism).

It sometimes comes down to A) she's too intimidated to use it because she's afraid of possible conflict, or B) I have a lot of dirty shit around and she feels compelled to let me know that it must end.

I think someone suddenly being taken away is probably a whole lot more traumatic because you never had the chance to say good-bye. But on the other hand, it does make a kind of social implication - terminally ill should only date others who are also terminally ill. And would this stigmatize those healthy partners who choose to stay with their terminally ill significant others?

I'm probably overthinking this way too much.

@Miss Carrie Nation: in the US, AIDS is largely a chronic disease. It is not a short-term death sentence now, as it was in the 80s, due to anti-retrovirals. So, I don't that such people would be ideal for a dating website for the terminally ill. But I suppose it might be easier to date in a pool of people who are all HIV+ ... it's gotta be really tough to disclose that status in dating relationships.
