I find it interesting that when the bail was $5 million, there was no groundswell from his "supporters" to bail him out. Now, at $20 million, I expect the silence to be thunderous. Nobody wants to bail him out, because they know, thanks to public reaction, that it would be considered "blood money."
Why does he have bail at all? He walked into a public place with the express purpose of killing, and he succeeded. Do we NEED any other reason to deny bail?
@CFinWV: I agree! I do not know enough about the Justice system, but I think that, if any case deserves no bail, it is this one. He pretty much has a blinking sign saying "Keep Me Locked Up."
I hope this guy doesn't get the death penalty, because then he would just be martyred by the insane nutjobs who believe the same things he does...a severe beating every day in prison for the rest of his life would probably suffice though.
I really have no compassion for this guy. Really, really don't.
Because increasing his bail will stop what exactly? But, by all means, continue letting these crazy dipshits spout hatefulness and incite others to follow his lead.
@Penny: I'm no legal expert, but a higher bail would make it less likely for him to be able to be freed before his trial. Also, I feel like an increased bail is a symbolic gesture to announce that this is being taken seriously and will not get off easy to any potential copy cats.
@fireflyinjuly: That may be. I guess I assumed he was, what with the bail and all. To be honest, I cannot read about him without going into Rage Zone, so I am afraid to try and find out.
Yeah, basically the "ends justify the means" thing is still prevalent. We had this great asshole letter to the editor in a nearby paper the other day saying how while shooting Tiller was wrong, who will God judge more harshly?
@lalaland13: I was on a flight the other day and sat next to a nutjob who I overheard say to the young guy on his right: "Well sometimes words aren't enough" in regard to Tiller's murder. And with that I promptly switched seats, only to end up next to a girl who was eagerly underlining passages from a book called When Sinners Decide to Marry. All that, on top of how much I hate flying anyway, made the whole thing an absolute living nightmare.
