When I was Taylor's age I hated my job and complained about it constantly to anyone that would listen, except of course my boss.
A friend gave me a great piece of advice that I would love to give to Tay-Tay now. Either quit or shut up! Its exhausting!
Also, its around this age that one should really realize that a lot of work is shitty little details that everyone thinks they are too good to do. Guess what, it has to get done. Just because you want to be a big boss doesnt mean the jobs can get done without things like unpacking the boxes.
@didntmeanto: I would also agree that at this age I too was verbally shitting all over the damn place about my boring job, a job that, now that I'm unemployed in the recession and have had to go through several absolutely horendous career choices, I would gladly take again. You don't appreciate the lushness of that earliest work, and really, why should you when you have very little to compare it to? But sometimes I look at Taylor, and I think about what the world will be like five or ten years from now, and I think about myself, and I'd just like to say, "I understand why you're bitter and jaded and I think you're a great person and do good work, but please shut the hell up." I think like all of us she'll probably figure this out the hard way though.
@The Queen of No:
that really annoyed me! i was hoping Rodger was going to fire her on that alone. then again I was like that too when I was younger like at 15.
As a fellow overcritical, perfectionist Virgo, I can totally relate to Rachel. Especially her desire to control too much of the business. I kept waiting for the moment when she would realize she has to let go, or run herself ragged. I am so glad Rodger stepped in and said NO. BAD. HEALTH. GOOD.
@shefightsback: I was never a horoscope person, but what you say is indicative of this virgo as well, and it took me until well into adulthood to learn that sometimes I need to have others help me, and to let go of the details. Missing the forest for the trees was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my years.
To be fair to her, as someone who has it, I don't think vertigo is at all a symptom of an ED or caused by not eating enough. And I'm sure it's for the benefit of the cameras, or maybe our doctors have different styles, but there's kinda more steps before being confronted to totally restructure your life. Huh? There's exercises to do, studies to be done on you, etc, to learn more about what's going on for sure. Now she may have previously had issues with not eating enough, but at least for me it's always really, really hard to eat when I'm having a spell of it. And of course it's going to make you weaker and sicker, but when I have it, I literally (heh heh) have to lay down with my head in one specific position, eyes open, to avoid having to go run and puke. Don't want to move to go get food, and when you're insanely nauseous do you ever want to eat? Not really. I sympathize with Zoe on this, as someone whose body looks absolutely nothing like hers, so I don't like it when people automatically assume that some sort of ED/poor eating habits is causing or worsening her condition.
@Trulymadlyme: Oh totally possible, I think there's loads of kinds? Mine isn't just called vertigo, although it's not that either. I didn't want to come against a doctor (who you have to think staged this part of her consultation for cameras, and was more thorough with Rachel privately...at least I hope) but the "Rachel Overdoes Everything Except Eating" made me somewhat irrationally want to rise to her defense. And I know a couple episodes back comments were speculating that vertigo might be a symptom of an ED.
@annebreal: I suspect RZ has something called Meniere's Disease which I've had bouts of in the past. You're already sick then the nausea and dizziness causes you to eat less which only makes it worse.
We can make jokes about "stress" with celebs but if I had to deal with a tenth of what RZ does I would drop 20 pounds in a snap without even noticing. It's not always an ED.
@Tiger Lourdes: Zombie Hunter: Ditto! You owe me a coke!
But yes, if she has Miniere's and she has a sodium imbalance (possibly due to not eating the right things) she is going to be suffering from some severe symptoms. I'd believe that before thinking she has an ED since Miniere's is also extremely stress related.
What I love about this show is how really humanizing it is. Before I started watching, Rachel Zoe was a tabloid caricature to me ~ all I knew of her was that she was an ultra thin stylist who had had some kind of feud/falling out with Nicole Ritchie. But the show reveals her to be a kind-hearted person who cares about her staff and her friends, tries her best to do right by people, and has a close, supportive family and a loving husband. It's nice that those positive things form the emotional core of the show. I do wish that she'd be a little firmer with Taylor, though. Her flat out refusal to take off her glasses in an important meeting, and sniggering while Rodger was talking, was staggeringly disrespectful. It's not all about you, Tay!
Taylor is 26 years old. Entirely too old to throw the tantrums she does. If she were my assistant, she wouldn't be my assistant.
Rachel Zoe has worked incredibly hard for a very long time to get where she is. Where in the world does she get this sense of entitlement and self-importance? Who the hell is Taylor Jacobson and why do I care?
Seriously, she had to HANG UP CLOTHING and she calls her parents to come help?!
rz dunking herself in patchouli isn't hard to believe. she and rodge are big dead heads - didn't she say she knew what she was going to name her firstborn daughter...and the name was the same as a song by the dead?
@rednrowdy: Scarlett Begonia, I think. When I found out Rachel was a deadhead, I went from finding her incredibly annoying to wanting to be her friend. It's a deadhead thing, I guess. That said, patchouli can be a very abrasive and obnoxious scent.
@Tchotchke: It can be if it's bad or cheap patchouli. I think her perfume sounds good. I wear Seet Patchouly from Sun's Eye and get tons of compliments on it, even from patchouli/patchouly haters. It's a mix of vanilla and patchouli.
Hilarious. It looked like Taylor wasn't even trying to unpack those boxes. I mean, if you're going to have your parents do your work for free, don't you think you should at least pretend that it's a group effort?
A "Let's Get Physical/ Xanadu"-style shoot? Comon' V Magazine! "Xanadu" and "Physical" are two entirely different styles. Get your Olivia references straight (sorry, I am stickler for all things Newton-John)
Also, I'd have fired Taylor right there for not taking off her glasses. Rudeness indeed.
@polypam: The only thing that cracks me up about this show is how everyone is always wearing their sunglasses inside. In my universe, there are only 3 reasons for doing that:
1. You've just had cataract surgery
2. You're a jerk
3. You're high
@KimberleeJean: It's an LA thing. I've found myself inside with my sunglasses on and haven't even noticed till I saw my refection and said "who's the asshole with the....ooops". Sunglasses on the head also a side effect.
@Tiger Lourdes: Zombie Hunter: It's an everywhere thing, I think. I walk into places on sunny days and forget I have them on. Maybe it happens more in LA since they have more sun...bastards. It's cold and cloudy in Indiana.

I also love how she summons her parents to do her job for her and then stands and watches them work.

What a privilege it must be to work for Rachel Zoe. Shame she has absolutely zero appreciation for the opportunity she's been given.
