1) what about Olivia Williams?
2) Really happy at the B5 shout out...rare to see outside of geekdom, and even then, a bit rare these days (although I will say that the Ivanova/Talia relationship was kind of confirmed much later, although after Talia was safely subsumed in the alternate persona....ok, shutting up now)
I've always loved this name and would want to use it for my hypothetical daughter, because it's also a family name. I'm kind of hoping it'll fall out of fashion before I'm ready to have kids.
You may recall this was also the name of Raven-Simone's character on the Cosby show. I was never entirely clear on how she got there (adopted? grandchild?), but she had one of the most hilarious moments on that show.
The Cos is talking to her, and she's telling him how she's going to name all her children Olivia. He asks her how she's going to call them when she wants them, and she calls out "Olivia! Olivia!"
To which the Cos naturally enough asks, "But what if you only want one Olivia?"
She responds, "One Olivia! I just need ONE OLIVIA!"
@buttonflyer: I loved little Olivia on that show. I think she was the daughter of the oldest sister (therefore granddaughter to the Cos) whose name I can't for the life of me remember. But, she was super cute and hilarious and whenever she was on, she got all the best lines.
When I was a kid I was the ONLY Olivia. Now every time I go to the grocery store someone's yelling "Olivia! Stop climbing on that!" and I have to turn around and wonder what the hell is going on. Damn kids.
@Everything MidnightBikeRide does is a balloon.: As a 26 year old Kelsey I can totally relate. Except now my little namesakes are running around the mall with their friends screaming "Oh my God, Kelsey! A sale at Abercrombie and Fitch!"
Why, oh why, didn't I have this list when my daughter was born. It took me 3 days to settle on a name, and in the end I am not 100% in love with it. (She likes it, so I guess that is the important thing. But Olivia is awesome!)
I have a nieceling named Olivia and she is very much your description of Olivias Anna. In fact, I haven't seen this particular niece in a while and will now make a trip this weekend.
@lurkerbynature: I've had a girlcrush on Olivia Wilde since her days on Skin, the short-lived Romeo and Juliet update on Fox. So beautiful. And I love the name.
@maybeimamazed02: I have a girlcrush on her now, thanks to her portrayal of 13. (Ye gods! A female character who is perfectly happy to state "my personal life is none of your business, it's how I do my job that should matter," and stick to that. *swoon*)
@jdawgg297: I didn't mean to set bait! But I'm from New Jersey - in NY/NJ parlance, "Olive" would be "Ahl-ihv" and "all of" would be "awl uhv." At least that's how I say it. Not an exact rhyme. (If I say "Olive the Other Reindeer" it sounds to my ear distinctly like I'm talking about olives.)
@rodmanstreet: You're right, I wasn't thinking very creatively! I guess I should be more precise with my speech, because really, if I actually pronounce Olive correctly, it's more "Ahl-ihv", like you said. And usually I'm so picky about things like that! (I firmly believe in "our" being pronounced like "hour", not a la Kate Gosselin: "It's a crazy life, but it's "are" life")
Oh, Olivia. It's such a lovely name to say. There was an Olivia in the toddler room of the daycare where I worked many years ago. She was one of the most beautiful children I've ever seen-blonde curly hair, big blue eyes, the world's longest eyelashes. She looked like a cartoon, kind of. And oh my God she was a terror. She bossed all the other kids, she would fly into hysterics at the merest mention of "nap time", and was pretty much the definition of precocious.
My just-adopted baby sister is named Olivia! I'm so glad she has such awesome fellow Olivias. And she's totally getting an Olivia the pig book from me for Christmas.
The book piglet, Olivia, is by far the best out of all above.
Though I did once freak my friends out when I insisted on reading her books to them while drunk. They clearly couldn't appreciate the awesomeness that is a pig.with.attitude. (not unlike one Miss Piggy.)
@AtomiClash: humanitarian misanthrope: I bought those books for my nephew. Well I bought the first one and then I fell in love with them and have bought all of them for him. And every other child i know.
@AtomiClash: humanitarian misanthrope: My niece is just now one, and her favorite book so far is Olivia. I think she likes 1) the color scheme 2) the way her mom and I read the part about Olivia being good at tiring people out -- we tend to flop back in exhaustion, and she enjoys it.
I was going to say, "what, no Liv Tyler?" but then wikipedia told me that her actual given name is Liv - which is even cooler.
I do love "olivia" and it won't cease to bring up images of a strong, quirky woman to me, but good lord there are a lot of them around lately.
