    Aw, but it's the only bad word I seem to have a natural facility for using. I look at people and intuit that they are douchebags with an ease I've never possessed in identifying "assholes" or "jerkoffs".

    You're entitled to your opinion, however some of your argument is predicated on a notion of language being static. This is not based in reality, words change meaning and the new meaning becomes every bit as valid as the original, even moreso if the original association loses meaning through disuse.

    How many people use the term SPAM but have never eaten spiced ham from a can? How often is are the terms "moron" or "idiot" used without regard to the original DSM use? Hell, what about "asshole" or "dickhead"?

    Slightly more seriously: When you get to the point where (purportedly by them, except yeah, right, on what planet?) straight mag Details is casually calling random gay men "doucheFAGS" it may be time to put the brakes on a trend.

    I don't know. My friends and I have a very specific use for calling guys "douches." It's basically a cocky jerk who is kinda hot but kinda knows it and ughhh you want to make out with him anyway.

    Plus my "Come as Douche" party last month was off-the-hook. So there.

    The term "chatch" has been floating around my university as a replacement for douchebag. I believe it comes from Chachi. As in the one that Joani loves.

    I still like the occasional use of douchebag, but I mostly say chatch now.

    @electricbubbles: This is the worst/best part about getting old. In my day we used this term but it's a scootch lower on the insult scale than douchebag - douchebag to me implies some serious greasiness. Cha[t?]chies are like overly styled and care way too much about their hair. Not quite as sleazy?

    I find that lately, since it IS so overused, the term "douchebag" is no longer sufficiently expressing just how...well, douchey, a guy is being. I've had to turn to stronger sounding words, like fucktard, shitface, etc. It's desensitized us all!

    I like variations on "tool" and "douche." Examples include "toolbox," "toolshed," "douchenozzle," and "douchetard," though that one only really comes out when I have FLAMES! On the side of my face!
