I was already planning on hitting up the Gap/Old Navy to use the coupons I get that give me 30% off and a kickback to the charity of my choice (probably some horrible anti-"good person" one like CARE or Planned Parenthood). This has just confirmed my decision to do so. I wonder if I can do an anti-boycott, where I send them a receipt with a scribbled note that says, "SUCK IT, ASSMUNCHES." #thegap
@Caeristhiona: I actually do take issue with "Christmakwanzakah." As far as I'm concerned, each holiday is unique and worth celebrating on its own, so smushing them all together is kind of insulting to everyone.
I see no problem with adding more holidays like Wintereen or Festivus though. #thegap
I guess I just feel like that's the state of affairs anyway -- we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukah in our home (I'm Episcopalian, boyfriend is a Jew) and we get SO frustrated by the token Magen David getting shuffled in with the Christmas decorsplosion every year.
So we just use Christmakwanzakah as a joking way to say "THESE ARE ALL THE SAME TO CAPITALISM. Go Team White Bread America!" #thegap
they have a funny definition of the word censor....
because last time i checked, censorship was the knowing suppression of information and denial of its existence. but acknowledging the existence other cultures and traditions as well as being inclusive to those who engage in such traditions doesn't deny access to that information. in fact, im pretty sure we call it pluralism and generally considered to be a very good thing
of the afa, you and you weird evangelical dictionary. #thegap
I was very pleased to see a Gap ad last night that mentioned not only Christmas, Kwanza, and Hanukkah, but Solstice, too. That was pretty awesome. #thegap
@Dauphine: When our family started doing that years ago, the theaters were empty, but lately, it seems like everybody else has the same idea, grrr. #thegap
@Skellatrix: It's like how Thanksgiving for my vegetarian lifestyle is more like "that day in late November where I eat chinese food/popsicles and watch my family fall asleep on the couch while I decide it's probably time for me to extinguish all the candles they lit earlier." #thegap
@sympathyforthebasementcat: That reminds of the time I tried to convince my Mom that Jesus was not in fact born on December 25th. That was a fun discussion... #thegap
