Not only is she amazing and inspiring, but could her picture be any sweeter or more lovely? She's like super granny!

Lovely. And she has a very pretty name if you're having a girl anytime soon ( hint hint). Geez I sound like my mom right now.

I have no problem with Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace prize but I wish I had known about this amazing woman before she passed. It's so funny that these people who risked their lives to save others all seem to be so humble and reticent. The Dutch woman who sheltered Anne Frank (I think I know her name but I'm not sure) was the same way. God bless all of them for being able to retain their humanity at a time when so many willingly gave it up.

Slight correction: anyone who endured leg crushings to save 2,500 children from certain death and torture should be refered to by her proper title, Her Honorary Badass Motherfucker HellYeah.

    Al Gore is overrated.

Ooops, can I say that? No seriously, I really believe this lady should have won.

I love that she saved their names, understanding the importance of their identity, it's a detail like that which says so much about her.

    Awesome.

@f_t_e: Yes. I thought so, too. It shows that she GOT it, that she fundamentally understood that this was about preserving their humanity and identity. She was not just saving lives, she was saving people. Amazing.

I'm definitely watching this! That's a wonderful story. And this also impressed me: "but Sendler's story did not come to larger attention until 1999, when three Kansas ninth-graders, began researching her for a history project."

BTW, that's such a lovely picture of her. Bravo Irena Sendler! if only the world had more people like you :)

@KotaShi: Yeah, I seriously cannot get over that. I'm surprised that a)committee chose him over her and b) that he did not just GIVE it to her once he was awarded.

Sometimes I hope there is an afterlife just so that people like her get rewarded for their good deeds.

Just reading about the torture made me feel sick. The fact that she withstood that for THREE MONTHS and never broke down is... I really can't find a word strong enough.
