My new estee lauder night serum says this event was a success as far as i was concerned.

i went to macy's (west side pavilion in LA) after the shops had closed, and i only waited in line for ten minutes. people were friendly. they were out of most things, but i wanted moisturizer anyways.

if they still have anything, the promo is still going on. get thee to a cosmetics counter!

Ha! The joke was on me, I guess. My town doesn't even have a Nordstroms. The nicest place to buy cosmetics in Humboldt County, California, besides a salon which may carry M.A.C. or Aveda, is the damn mall. Nicest store in said mall? Gottschalk's. Exactly. There were NO free cosmetics anywhere within 200 miles of my ass.

my dad works at a mall in NJ and said that there were lines out the door of Macy's/the other department stores, and that people were just running back and forth between them to score as much as possible. All you had to do was sign your name, apparently?!

I went to Soho Bloomies on my lunch break, went back there after work, then hit Saks and Bergdorfs after that. And at Saks, as soon as I went through the line once I got back in it. I didn't bother with any shower gels or crap like that. The nice thing is that these aren't samples either--they're the full thing.

Some friends told me about this last night. They were underwhelmed by the products. Apparently the crowds were pretty light -- my friend went to the Macy's on State St. in Chicago, and was in and out in 10 minutes. Another friend went to 4 separate stores and had a purse full of freebies that she doubts she'll ever use. *shrug*

I heard that the companies involved in the suit were allowed to make products just for the giveaway, so chances are they cheapy churned out a bunch of stuff of subpar quality or only gave out the products that were least expensive to produce (note a lot of scented lotion and body wash on there) and passed it along to consumers.

Here in Michigan Land of the unemployed the whole thing was a bit of a mad house. People at the mall were standing in crazy long lines. When they got to the front to find certain products had run out people got bitchy. I just happened to be at the mall and can't complain I got some sunscreen and a lotion. The girls behind me had a point though "I've spent years apparently over paying for make-up and now they're not really giving away make-up." They were handing out a list at Macy's it was mostly perfume and body wash.

I don't think the stores were too keen on advertising the freebies since they were required to give them out based on a Class Action Lawsuit. It was not a marketing ploy or promo event.

The companies got in trouble and this is their punishment. (prices were apparently being jacked up for some reason, I can't quite remember)

I scored some awesome Estee Lauder night-repair serum and I'll probably go back for more today. The line was wrapped around the makeup department at the downtown Houston store when I went, but it moved really quickly. I was a little surprised that so many people there in line were about to miss the inauguration to get makeup (I arrived at 10:40CST and was back at my desk by 11:05CST). It's happening all week, so I think it's worth it for some good skin products.

I stopped in Macy's yesterday, was the only one there and walked out with the Clinique lotion in about 2 minutes. It's a good size and will last me a while.
