@Vivien Smith-Smythe-Smith: Oh, dear Aunt Helen! I once saw a wonderful version of that second picture in which Bush was photoshopped to be eating an ice-cream and not sharing.
Do you remember when people had fits about Helen Clark wearing a trouser suit to meet the Queen? I thought it was utterly ridiculous.
And I think Sonia Sotomayor looks professional and stylish in those pictures. The bright red jacket is such an awesomely vivid colour!
This is someone who gets to cover all her clothes up for her job. I don't think she worries about what the fashion industry is thinking about her choices.
I am surprised she didn't mention the one thing about her sartorial choices that I noticed: This black-with-a-bright jacket instead of a full suit is very Sarah Palin.
@booboolee: Technically, she only had one shoe on, as the old leg was yet clad in a cast. So, I must admit: the shoes were not cute. I also didn't care.
All these fashion assholes can suck it when she's confirmed and gets an awesome SCOTUS robe. They can go on and on about sheath dresses and bangle bracelets all they like, but there is nothing I want to see Sotomayor wear as much as that robe.
@vulcanized: I wonder what she will add to hers. Ginsburg has her lace collars; will Sotomayor accessorize with giant bracelets, or perhaps some fabulous earrings? No one say sombrero.
Well, I don't want to put words in Judge Sotomayor's mouth, but I'm pretty sure she would say something like, "I didn't get where I am today by listening to the "fashion industry's constant refrain." And I sure as shit don't give a fuck what Robin Givhan thinks. Who is she anyway?"
Also, sheath dresses may look good when you're standing up, but sitting in them is tricking for those of us with a bit of belly. They make me look link a bent sausage, about to bust its casing.
Funny, my only thought about her clothes was that the colored jackets were pretty bold choices, given the context and the usual stodginess of both Senators and appellate judges.
Basically, they're bitter because she didn't get her tits out. How sad. I'm so sorry her, in your opinion, complete and utter lack of sexual display was so distracting while she was interviewed for the highest court in the country.

@Vivien Smith-Smythe-Smith: That cut the image down a bit... original is here.
And once more, for favourite ex-PM lols:
[re edit: sorry, that pic was supposed to come after the comment. Urgh!]
[re-re edit: and now my hyperlink has gone? Oh, Jezebel...]

Oh... no evidence of shoes. (recovers) Well, no evidence to the contrary! Innocent until proven guilty, amiright?
Though seriously, I thought what she wore was universally tasteful yet bold and feminine. Oh wells, 999,999/1,000,000 is not bad.
