The Reign In Spain: Continental Awesomeness Continues At Vogue Anniversary Party

Hola! Friends, you know how I dig my Spanish fashionistas, the sultriest, chicest dames on the planet. This being a fashion event - the Vogue 10th Anniversary Party in Madrid - the looks were predictably avant-garde...to the extent that some of my picks are — how do you say? — controversial. Well, lame-duck's prerogative, kids! I daresay George W. Bush, too, is a sucker for a Mexican-inflected jumpsuit. Jade Jagger, Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Casta, Paz Vega and more...after the jump.

The Horror! The Horror! The Good, The Bad And The... German.

I know what you're thinking - it's-a-friggin'-small-world-after-all this week! Well, that is, if the figurines were all drunk. And got dressed in the dark. In the most picked-over Salvation Army in the whole city. And then walked down a Munich red carpet at something called "DEV: Movie Meets Media" at "discotheque P1." So hideous were the accumulated fashions at the aforementioned event that I was forced to do the unthinkable: throw out all pre-existing categories and present you with an uncategorized melange of varying degrees of "bad". (There was no "good," kids.) Now, it would seem I'm woefully ignorant of German pop culture (and that three weeks of "Beginning Yiddish" at the Y do not a German Wikipedia-reader make) so I call upon any Deutch Jezzies out there to give us the dirt on these people...after the jump.

All About Yves - CFDA Event Turns Into Awesome YSL Tribute

So, after the trial by fire that was the MTV Movie Awards, we are rewarded with "the Oscars of the fashion world," the CFDAs, in which the best and brightest of the
fashion world convened (at the New York Public Library, obviously) to channel classic YSL. (How they managed to pull it together so fast is another question — but, hey, it's not the Council of Fashion Designers for nothing. Maybe they have vintage menswear lying in wait the way papers have obits?) It was suggested by one reader yesterday that my guest advent was a clear indicator that Jezebel is "going downhill." When I was younger — like, a day younger — this is the kind of thing that would have hurt my feelings. But it's a new day and I have developed the thick skin of the professional blogger. The professional blogger who really, really liked Maggie Gyllenhaal's harem pants, and is prepared to suffer for it. After the jump, of course.

Chanel Beverly Hills: How Bad Could It Be? (Answer: Not That Bad)

Yesterday in Beverly Hills, Chanel opened a new boutique, and naturally, a bevy of Hollywood fashionistas came out to celebrate. (Recessions do not apply to Robertson Boulevard, apparently.) On hand: Rachel Bilson, Leighton Meester, Emma Roberts and a sorta nasty-looking Nicollette Sheridan. Maybe because it's Friday, maybe because it was Chanel, or maybe because I'm just in a sensitive place right now, but today's Good, Bad, & Ugly is more like Good, Good, & Kinda Bad. I don't have any qualms about being nasty, but even the frumpy Ione Skye looked pretty sweet to me. Call me crazy, but I like a 90s-babysitter vibe! See for yourself after the jump. More »

Sex And The City Premiere: The Fashion, For The Most Part, Was Fierce

I am SO overwhelmed by the heavy hitters that showed up to the Sex And The City premiere in New York last night: Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction, comedian Amy Sedaris, and Tony Award-winning Idina Menzel are a few of my favorites, so today's The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly is a tad biased. I will say that for the most part, everyone else looked great. Most of the celebs pulled out all the fabulous fashion stops on the premiere's pink carpet, including 75% of the SATC cast. (Can you guess which 75%?) The full Good, Bad, and Hot Tranny Messes, after the jump.

Synecdoche, New York Premiere: Can't Wait for the Movie, Can Wait for the Ugly Dresses

This weekend in Cannes, stars showed up for the premiere of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman's next effort, Synecdoche, New York, which Kaufman both wrote and directed. If you're a fan of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, this movie will probably excite you. (It stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a theater director attempting to create a life-sized replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of a new theatrical production.) If you're a fan of Michelle Williams, Kerry Washington, and a pretty actress named Clementine Poidatz, well, roll up your sleeves and get ready to dig into this awesome installment of The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly. Your favorite guest blogger tears fashion a new one, after the jump. More »

Che At Cannes: The Guerrilla Warfare Of Gorgeous Celebs

Aren't there like, 20 movies about Che Guevara? Or maybe just 20 million different t-shirts? I thought the Che hype had died down but all the stunning ladies at the Cannes premiere for the highly anticipated Che biopic starring Benicio Del Toro, (everyone's favorite sexy-dirty actor) proved otherwise. It'll probably end up winning like 20 million Oscars too. At least we can look back at these pictures one day and recall Natalie Portman's bright red Valentine dress and Naomi Campbell's outfit, which turned my brain into the shape of a question mark. More gems in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly after the jump. More »

Chopard Trophy Awards Party: Diamonds Are Forever, Well-Dressed Celebs Are Not

There were a bunch of names I didn't recognize at the Chopard party last night in Cannes, and most of those unknowns really tickled my fashion fancy. Unfortunately those women I did recognize (Christina Ricci, Gwyneth, Dita Von Teese) didn't really get me too jazzed. Except, of course, Maria Menounos (in Marchesa methinks?), who totally stole my heart along with Kristin Scott Thomas. But why did Lola Ponce think it was okay to be naked? The party was about precious jewels and that doesn't include the one you're wearing as a belly button ring. My picks for The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly, after the jump. More »

Uma & Eva Look Great Even Though Their Movie Looks Awful

In the new film The Life Before Her Eyes, Uma Thurman, left, plays a woman who, as a child, witnessed a "Columbine-like" event which fucked her up for life. But want to know what's really fucked up? The fact Evan Rachel Wood plays Thurman's character's younger self. To quote Cher Horowitz: As if. Susan Sarandon's daughter, the painfully-beautiful Eva Amurri, also stars, and all of the aforementioned ladies were at the New York Film Society's screening of the movie last night. There were also a ton of models: Hana Soukupova, Helena Christensen, Irina Pantaeva, and Maggie Rizer, some, of course, better dressed than others. The full Good, Bad, and Ugly, plus the terrifying transformation of Evan Rachel Wood into Dita von Teese, after the jump. More »

The Tin Roof Is Hot, The Clothes Are Not

Who cares about bombs in Times Square? Last night, the theater district saw the star-studded premiere of the first all-black production of Tennessee William's classic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, starring Phylicia Rashad, James Earl Jones, Dreamgirl Anika Noni Rose, and baby-wipe fan Terrence Howard. (The production got a somewhat tepid review by the NY Times' Ben Brantley.) The onstage star-wattage, however, was offset by the disappointing sartorial choices on the part of the red carpet attendees. Though the great Spike Lee and his wife Tonya, left, set the bar high, (and Eartha Kitt looks purrrfect no matter what) their fellow attendees fell terribly short, on the whole. The Fun, Fearless, Fine Men Of Cosmo

Yesterday was Cosmo's annual event honoring "Fun Fearless Men." John Mayer was this year's honoree (fun and fearless? More like brooding and interested in blondes with big tits). Carmen Electra and Sara Bareilles were there representing the finer sex, though their ensembles were less than impressive. But the menfolk? From Jon Krasinki to Dave Annable (left), they were mostly looking excellent. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Cosmopolitan's fun, fearless, fine-ass guys, after the jump. More »

"Fishy" Is Fabulous: Oscar Fashion 2008

Thank God for Oscar fashion because the awards themselves dragged... on... forever. And on last night's red carpet? Lots of, well, red. Heidi Klum, Miley Cyrus, Katherine Heigl, Anne Hathaway, Ruby Dee, and Helen Mirren were just some of the women who matched their gowns to the carpet they were posing on. But the absolute best looks were seen on the women who opted for something a little less traditional: Like Marion Cotillard's fish-scale mermaid gown by Jean-Paul Gaultier. Cotillard looked radiant, palpitating with natural beauty and joie de vivre. Also gorgeous? Cate Blanchett, pregnant in purple Dries Van Noten, and Amy Adams, sultry in deep green Proenza Schouler. Those who swung and missed? Diablo Cody, Cameron Diaz and Renee Zellweger. And Lord have mercy on Sarah "I'm Dating George Clooney" Lawson: Her ugly-ass table-cloth dress was the worst of the worst in my book. You can take the girl out of Fear Factor, but you can't take the Fear Factor out of the girl. Photo galleries of the Good, Bad, and Ugly of Oscar style, after the jump. More »

Stars Look Spot-On At BAFTA Awards

While music types flocked to California for the Grammy Awards, the movie types were assembling in London for the British Academy of Film and Television Awards, also held last night. And wow, were we, well, wowed: Sienna Miller, whose style we normally loathe, looked drop-dead gorgeous in black (with a fabulous cut out back), Jessica Biel made like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley (though ghastly thin) wore a beautiful tiered gown, and Laura Bailey's one of the most beautiful expectant mums we've ever seen. Off the mark, though, were Marion Cotillard, Thandie Newton, Diablo Cody, and Sally Farmiloe. [Who? -Ed.] The fully annotated good, bad, and ugly (or shall we say the sharp, the naff, and the shite?) guide to the BAFTAs begins after the jump. More »

Grammy Awards Fashions Hit The High Notes

Finally: Another awards ceremony! At last night's Grammys, celebrities seemed eager to cuddle up to the warm and welcoming bosom of a red carpet, and for the most part, everyone cleaned up nicely. Hell, even Lisa Rinna looked good, forgoing her usual penchant for leopard print for sleek silver. Other big successes: Alicia Keys, who always looks sleek; Fergie, who kept things minimal and sunny; Natasha Bedingfield, who dazzled in royal purple; and Rihanna, who had the most exciting dress of the evening by far — short, snappy, dazzling. But of course, there were the losers, too, and we don't just mean the people who went home without statuettes. Carole King would have been better off in a tapestry than what she was wearing; Taylor Swift looked like she was headed to the prom; Cyndi Lauper looked like the Bride of Frankenstein, and we're not sure what the hell Kelis was thinking. amFAR Fashion Week Gala Is The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of

Last night in New York, French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld was honored alongside Julian Schnabel and Bobby Shriver by amFAR for "their vital and distinctive contributions to the global struggle against AIDS." It being the eve of New York Fashion Week, we totally expected the attendees at the gala to make an effort with their outfits — plus, they were going to be in the presence of La Roitfeld herself! But let's just say that Natasha Richardson, above, was the only highlight of the evening, and that we're pretty sure we're going to be having nightmares about most of the dresses on display. Rambo Red Carpet Fashions Are Surprisingly Stylish

You can stop counting down the days: the new Rambo movie opens today! Are you as excited as Sly, pictured at left, is? At the film's premiere last night in Vegas, the looks were minimally camo. Hell, even Jenna Jameson looked classy. The surprisingly tasteful good, bad, and ugly, after the jump. More »

At Sundance, Stars Dress Puffily, Poorly

The stars have been frolicking in the snow at the Sundance Film Festival all week, pretending to care about independent cinema and "art" and all those sorts of things. What they need to be focused on, though, is staying warm and wearing something — anything — other than Uggs and puffy jackets. Because frankly, with all their disposable income, surely they can think of better-looking and more creative way of keeping their tootsies warm?. Adrien Grenier (left) earns our marginal admiration for at least pretending to care about what the city is actually known for — its skiing — instead of just frolicking at the Fred Segal suite and collecting shopping bags. At The Boucheron Dinner, The Jewels Outsparkled The Outfits

Last night in Paris, the luxury jewelry line Boucheron had one of those rich-and-famous-folk-studded dinners to honor itself and the company's 150th anniversary. And while all the guests were brilliantly bejeweled, something about their outfits was distressing. Sure, Julianne Moore looked gorgeous and chic in her gray sheath, but why did her face look so frozen in every single photo we saw of her? And why the hell was supermodel extraordinaire Naomi Campbell wearing some crazy fur bolero? And why did Anna Wintour's half-smile seem so off-putting in contrast to her simple floral sheath? The good, the bad, the ugly, and, well, Anna Wintour...all after the jump. More »
