I feel like I owe it to all the NPH lady fans in this thread to tell you that I have a friend who is a carbon fucking copy of NPH. He gets mistaken for NPH all the time, and I frequently refer to him as Barney (he has the womanizer thing down). And he's straight.
Here's what amuses me: There are a LOT of gay actors out there, small-time and big-time. And oodles of closeted (or just privately open) ones play straight roles all the time. Straight actors play gay, too. Hell, whites used to play every ethnicity, in the not so distant past. Not that that was good, but my point is that we as an audience suspend our disbelief. It's called ACTING.
@CoalMineCanary: Yes. I guess people casting them do have to think about whether they'll be "believable" as a gay character, but it never seems to be as big of a deal as when a gay actor plays straight.
@CoalMineCanary: Yep, that's my feeling. If a straight actor can play a gay character, why can't a gay actor play a straight character. They are all just people and their job is to play a role that IS NOT THEM.
I love NPH's attitude about his child star fame years. He doesn't seem ashamed of being Doogie, he will joke about it (SNL and HIMYM) but also continues to work hard in his current career. I hate it when former child stars seem sooo ashamed of it (like Gary Coleman) or live entirely off the past rather than create a current career for themselves.
@muddgirl: Certainly not. I was a young teen when that show was on, and I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. He seems smart; he always did.

@muddgirl: I think he and are are exactly the same age, and I thought he was funny looking in the Doogie years (also, a talking computer diary? Dork), but this whole NPH revival has me looking at him in a whole new way. A dirty, dirty way.
I was just discussing with my sister the phenomenom of gay men, that I know are gay, that I still want to bone. Badly. It's like the gayness only makes them hotter.
I include on this list NPH, Zachery Quinto, Adam Lambert and the Mos. Women all of the world want to make luv to the Mos. How can Hollywood continue to deny that gay men hold sexual appeal?
@Vivelafat says Sweep the leg, Johnny.: Et tu, Zachery Quinto? I'll have to Google that one. Also, totally agree about the "wanting to bone hot gay celebrities, despite the whole gay thing".
Edited to add: Thought of another one! Anderson Cooper, although he's not out at all :(
@muddgirl: I didn't want to believe it either, and he hasn't gone on the cover of a magazine to declare it, but he acts similar to NPH before he came out, showing up to industry parties with a male date and whatnot.
It matters not a whit to me, I still want to bone him and I my chances of doing so are still about the same as when I thought he was straight.
@Vivelafat says Sweep the leg, Johnny.: Yeah, that makes sense... Totally not going to delete the huge file of Quinto pictures on my hard drive (it's really embarrasing, actually, because I've never watched Heroes and started collecting them before Star Trek, so I can't even say I'm attracted to his acting skills. I am totally objectifying him.)
@stoprobbers: I'd have to agree. He's fantastically talented. I was a big HIMYM fan from the beginning, and seeing NPH in Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long-Blog was just icing on the cake for me.
Honestly, I could watch NPH read the thesaurus and be entertained.
@stoprobbers: I agree that you quoted the key line of the clip, but I'd also add "likability" because even when he's playing a bad guy, you just can't hate.
Well see it all started when this guy hooked Neil up with some incredible X--next thing he knows he's being thrown out of a moving car. And he's been trippin' balls ever since.

Ummm... I can't be the only one who has had (and continues to have) a completely-sexual crush on NPH? I think it's the cheekbones.

Exactly. He is just so damn good. Gay, straight, bi, elephant, whatever give the man some lines and some slapstick comedy and we're good to go.
