yeah i can't read this site anymore. how on earth is david letterman trashing palin's tacky make-up a big deal, or any different from any of you bitching out over megan fox's "sexy face" or the good/bad/ugly feature? because she's the governor of alaska? what the hell kind of standard is that, that it's okay to say one chick looks tacky but another is verboeten? stop whipping yourselves into frenzies about how "the right" is going to react to the "ammunition" given to sarah palin, noted fallen republican star who few of them care about anymore, because i think it's insulting to humanity in general to think they're going to be so upset that they'll galvanize a new movement over a noted variety show host and comedian saying some governor has trashy make-up.

i mean good lord, no one else remembers how letterman was the only host willing to balls-out call mccain on his bullshit during the election? the man has certainly brought up sarah palin's awful points on more than one occasion, it's not his job to constantly remind the audience with cutting, sharp commentary on what terrible people the republicans are in their policies. he's allowed a lazy joke about appearances, which he makes far more often about men, and which many politicians have gladly chosen to take part in themselves on his show (*coughcough*hillary!*coughcough*).

@allyzay: i mean i'm sorry but saying someone looks bad isn't sexist in and of itself and it's not something to freak out about or to even like or dislike on any basis at all. it is a common, often-used comedy trope (employed by this site, about the items of clothing people choose to wear) so, you know, maybe if you all feel so strongly about what a terrible person you'd have to be to say "slutty flight-attendant style" you should stop reading celebrity gossip sites like jezebel and strictly stick to feministing et al instead. because otherwise the haters are looking mighty hypocritical.

It's as if Obama gets those chain emails callng him a socialist so he says "oh, come on, here, I'll prove it to you: no salary caps!" or some such capitalisty thing. What he may not know is that the people who write and forward these emails don't know what socialism means.

I saw a Creigh Deeds ad on TV the other night, and it would've blown right past my brain (I live in MD, so I'm not really invested in the VA race as a voter) except it said very loudly and plainly "HE IS PRO-CHOICE." And I was like, "Wow, man, way to not beat around the bush with that one. Applause!"

That said, I don't know too much about him so I hope he's as good as his firm and blatant stance on abortion.

I'm giving Tim Geithner the side eye right now. TARP was passed with a provision saying that the Treasury could not attach conditions to repayment of TARP funds. And now, Geithner has attached...conditions.... to... repayment... of TARP funds? Why is he allowed to do this? I mean, maybe his version of the rules makes better sense to him, but he still should follow the actual rules rather than Geithners Special Rules. What does he think this is, the Bush administration?

@Sandicomm: I don't hate him; he's a smart guy with a good track record at the New York Fed. Right now, his agency is laughably understaffed and those responsible for bringing him the help he needs are dragging their feet, as federal employees are known to do.

My problem is that he's compromising himself out of effectiveness. He needs to stop coddling bankers and start treating the financial sector like the government treated the auto industry. The global economy obviously can't weather another Lehman Brothers-style sudden failure, but we can't allow places like Citi and BOA to exist at the expense of taxpayers and as a hindrance to the rest of the industry.

I have a lot of feelings about this.

And why would we be bending over backwards for Kenya? Lots of Presidents had foreign relatives, but that didn't mean they did anything special for them. I live in Texas and Bush CERTAINLY didn't do anything special for us, and we live in the US!

Sarah Palin is attractive. I have no problem saying that. What I have a problem with is that we keep coming around to this. I imagine the number of people that voted for her in the election based solely on her attractiveness isn't as low as we'd like to think. Honestly, it's pretty sad that so many people ignored her blatant hypocrisy, lack of experience, and basic knowledge of just about anything because she was so pretty. If she'd been "less attractive" and also a Republican, she'd have been crucified for how she acted.

That being said, low blow Letterman. Calling a sitting governor's looks slutty is just wrong.

And frankly, it distracts from the real issues (her policies, incompetence, etc.) Instead of talking about the important things, she'll just talk about how unfairly the media treats her.
