Woot woot! I was one of the people handing out these stickers at the rally! They were all the rage that night.
This rally sucked, though. There were a gajillion obnoxious 14-year-olds there, and freakin' EHUD BARAK spoke. So upsetting that no actual left-wing leader (not a lefty-righty leader) spoke. Lame. #yitzhakrabinassassination
@dialing_footnoterphone: There was a scene when they confront some israeli and Ziva talks to him in hebrew. It's clear that someone gave her a phonetic guide and just let her go at it. Her hebrew is unintelligible. After I listened to it 12 times, there were still a few words I didn't understand. That was when I stopped watching that show. AT LEAST guide her into sounding realistic. #telaviv
@nagumi: That show did not do its research before creating that character. I love it. My favorite was when she talked to Tony about how "in Israel, all Jews and Arabs live together" and how her best friend growing up was Arab and he died or something. Why would you join the Mossad if you had a bunch of Arab friends? And in most of Israel, Jews and Arabs aren't BFFs who live in the same neighborhood.
@nagumi: I totally agree. I was close friends with a few girls from Isreal in high school and when they talked to their mom... yeah, nothing like Ziva's Hebrew. But I'll get what I can take from primetime. Like Olivia. Whew. #telaviv
@HereComesMyBaby: To be fair, my Aunt joined the Mossad and worked with the pre-revolution Iranian intelligence agency (well, as a secretary for the Israeli embassy in Tehran and as an intelligence attache`) and was a secret agent, literally, in King Hussein of Jordan's court in the 70's. Really. She posed as a German diplomat (she was born in Germany and had a flawless accent) and held secret peace negotiations with the king - only he and a few top advisers knew her true identity. She claims it was boring.
This was all declassified last year. My aunt Ruthi could never tell us what she actually did all those years before last year. She's 84 now.
The Mossad is an intelligence agency, not a warmaking agency. Although in Israel's short history they've done a lot of bad stuff, they were also responsible for such coups as bringing Adolf Eichmann to trial and securing peace with Jordan and Egypt. Hating arabs is hardly a prerequisite for being a good Mossad agent. I'd say having brains is.
And my aunt did have many arab and muslim friends when she was young, and still does. And she votes Meretz ;)
I wrote this comment mostly for non-israelis - I know you're Israeli. I just don't want the perspective of people reading these comments to be that Israeli govt folks hate arabs. Many do, but many also join the govt or mossad or army in order to promote harmony with our neighbors, not to provoke them. Today is a good day to remember Rabin, a "soldier for peace". That's what was on the bumper stickers and posters and demo signs when I was 11 and he was killed. I don't think it's so far out.
@nagumi: Yeah, it was just the way Ziva described it on the show that was ridiculous. Like she was like "all Arabs and Jews live together in Israel! It's the way it is!" #telaviv
American Soldier: stop me if you've heard this one, A Rabbi, a Priest and a Minister walk into a bar; bartender says What is this? a joke?
get it? #telaviv
What is the point of this post, seriously? That Israelis are better dressed than Americans? That Rain Phoenix has officially given up both acting and music? It's like it's written in some Jezebel code that I'm not privy to. #telaviv
After seeing photos on Facebook of my cousins posing with uzis while on holiday in Israel earlier this year (family in the IDF, etc.), I don't think I can look at any more pictures of Israeli soldiers without wanting to wet myself. From fear, that is. Not mirth. #telaviv
@Vivien Smith-Smythe-Smith: Your soldier friends should know that they will be court-martialed if those pictures are ever seen. Letting a civilian handle your weapon is a major crime.
@nagumi: I think all of said cousins are currently in the IDF, or have already served their time... Does that make a difference? If they're posing but not in uniform? #telaviv
@Vivien Smith-Smythe-Smith: It's... not good. If they let a civvy pose with their weapon, it can be prison time. If the just made a mockery (I'm using my hebrew here) of the weapon, etc (basically being unsafe) it can be bad too. I was never in the army (yay debilitating massive teenaged depression for avoiding the draft!), but at the least posing for pics with a weapon (not hanging over your shoulder but actually posing with it, as in pointing it) is BAD, potentially criminal.
That's not to say that soldiers don't do it constantly. Of course, one would hope they're not stupid enough to put their law-breaking on facebook...
Giving your weapon to someone else, though, civvy or not... I'm 99.9% sure that that's a crime. If you served in the army in the past, then you're currently a civilian, and that's just as bad. I'm pretty sure the uniform is irrelevant here.
This is kinda like the idiots who put naked pics of themselves on facebook and then apply for a job as a school counselor. From now on, any time your cousins apply for a job, their potential employers will see pics of them playing with guns. #telaviv
@nagumi: A group of guys, known only as "the Russians," from my roommate's basic training unit PLAYED AROUND WITH THEIR WEAPONS in basic training a day after they got them.
So for the rest of basic training (3 months), all the troops in my roommate's unit weren't allowed to bring their guns home on weekends. I was so happy. No guns in the HereComesMyBaby house! #telaviv
09/09 is my birthday. Is that supposed to be a lucky day if you're not getting married and you don't have a toilet paper dress?
I do like the girl in the pink. She is rocking that outfit. And she looks a bit like Bjork.
@coffeeandtv: Happy early birthday! 09/09 is my anniversary, but my dress was definitely not made out of TP- wouldn't have lasted through the spit-takes from my dad's speech.
@kookoocachaw: And the model in pink would totally get a call back. The designer who did the one right behind the groom would get a stern talking to over their weird styling on the shoes.
