    I find it totally believable that American Apparel would settle even after Nelson's lawyers admitted her fabrication: to avoid the kind of "guilty until proven innocent" witch hunt that some of you are demonstrating so well. When people start boycotting this guy's company because they have judged him guilty against -- in this case, pretty compelling evidence to the contrary, he loses money. Even if he did nothing wrong, it's in his best interest to avoid trial, and 1.3 mil is not a lot of money for Charney or his company to not have to be subject to this bullshit.


    I'm not saying he's never been guilty before, btw.

    Normally I hate abridged versions but I have to thank you for this one.


    He is gross and she is probably mercenary. I hate it when people accept money instead of making the guilty party stand judgement. I wonder, what is your motivation? How will this help anyone else?


    It makes me think of the first MJ case, what would have happened if they had not settled (well, or sent kids to sleep over in the first place)?

    If she had no case and called to plead for help, wouldnt they just laugh in her face? I find it difficult to believe they agreed to settle for anything out of the goodness of their hearts.

    @Haystacks: Litigation is expensive, time-consuming, and just generally sucks. Plus, especially in California, you have NO idea how things are going to turn out in court. You would be surprised at how many baseless lawsuits are settled.

    Having spent the last few days at jury Duty, this stuff is more interesting to me now. I want to see Boston Legal do a mock up of this.


    PS I also wanted to have sexy liberal ranting lawyers a la Alan Shore in my courtroom so I could flirt with them from the jury Box but no luck.
