Oh how I wish I could get my little one in for the H1N1 vaccine. Little miss LeBlanc fits high risk in two areas because she was born under two pounds and has a compromised immune system and also she is under the age of 1. It just went so fast at her pediatricians office its like we never knew it was there. I was hoping they would give us a heads up since she is so high risk but alas they didn't think it was necessary. It almost makes me want to switch clinics. They only allowed people to make appointments online and didn't really bump the uber high risk kids up to get in the first dosing cycle so we have been staying home a lot and not taking any exposure risks. Sorry for the semi rant...anyone else have a preemie who has had it yet or a kid with immune system issues? I am just wondering how they reacted to it? #h1n1vaccine

@Mrs.Raoul LeBlanc: That is so ridiculous that your doc didn't bump you to the top of the list. I'm angry for you! Ours called all the higher-risk kids first to schedule them. After that, babies 6 to 24 mos. could get it (my son is 14 mos) but it was first come, first serve. Seemed like a fair system. #h1n1vaccine

@Maritsa: Awww thanks :) I appreciate the angrys in my honor. I do feel like I am about to go a little stir crazy from staying at home a lot. Plus I hate that I have to keep my kid away from so many people. I just found out her Physical Therapist has H1N1. It is a bit hard to figure out how I am going to allow her back into my house and allow her to touch my kid when I know she has been sick. She turns one on the 21st of this month and I am hoping if they don't have the vaccine before then that the office will have it at the time of her appointment. Its just kind of hard as the parent of a kid who started life as a preemie. You see them go through all this crap and hurt and poking and prodding that the thought of them being really sick again just kills you. It just seems like she has been through enough already ya know? #h1n1vaccine

Dude, that little girl is probably the best behaved, 3 year old shot recipient EVER! I had to hold my four year old down, and he fought back by giving me a purple nurple. She deserves an award! #h1n1vaccine

My kids had it a couple of hours ago. They were freaking out because they wanted the FluMist but they only had shots. The doctor and I were telling them how lucky they were to get it to no avail, they were crying and crying. In the end, they didn't even feel when the needle went in.
I'm so jealous. They are not giving it to "healthy" adults over 35 in my area yet. #h1n1vaccine

all they have for clinics in my area is flu mist.

@Little Green Frog (Wise Latina): haha i figured... i am more just frustrated at the way it is being distributed here. i should have a reserved dose at my doc's office, and i don't. and i can't call the health dept and say "i need one, can you schedule me" i have to wait in the cattle call (which i'm not supposed to do... i'm actually breaking recommendations by taking public transit, even, or going to the mall).

really, it's not you, it's the situation. #h1n1vaccine

I just want to encourage everyone to get their seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines this year! I'm coming out a week-long swine flu haze and while I didn't sprout a curly piglet tail or snout, it was pretty gnarly. Everyone get lots of vitamin C and keep your immune systems strong.

@Ailatan: I do the same. I dreaded getting an epidural, and flinched when I got both of mine, because I hate not seeing what's going on. But once I got them, I was happy I did. I compliment people when they do a good job taking blood, too. I have had some people maim the crap out of my arm! #h1n1vaccine

I'm probably the only person who never cared about shots. When I was little it sucked, but I was so damn shy that I just didn't have the guts to say anything or do anything to protest so I just went with it. It really only feels like a mosquito bite. My dad gets squeamish around shots. When I was 15 he took me for my check up and the doctor started talking about vaccines I needed so I asked if she could give me 2 in each arm that day to get it over with. My dad couldn't even watch! #swinefluvaccine

I'm really disgusted that 'medical' people can get away with assaulting children like this and not be charged. Let naive-but-consenting adults take this shot, but stop hurting children for power and profit.

And we wonder why children are confused when we tell them not to let others touch them in ways that make them feel bad, and not to use drugs, but then allow others to force chemicals directly into their bloodstreams. I hate people sometimes. #swinefluvaccine

You know what I think should be illegal? Parents who make decisions that have lasting negative health impacts for not only their children but other people around them.

Also, kids are being vaccinated for swine BECAUSE THEY'RE ONE OF THE AT RISK GROUPS. There's little point in a healthy adult getting it unless they work with children, the elderly or the immune-compromised. #swinefluvaccine

Curious, I'm not in the US and would like to know whether you must pay for the vaccine to receive it. Seems like a pretty hot ticket, is the climate around it that most people want to be vaccinated?

In New Zealand we have been through winter flu season. There was no vaccine available and most people who contracted H1N1 had simply regular flu symptoms. Unpleasant but no worse than any other flu. There were some fatalities with people who had other underlying medical conditions. #swinefluvaccine

@LivingDaylight: We had quite a few deaths here in Aus, in the high-risk groups the Americans are now vaccinating. I think the northern hemisphere countries are using Aus and NZ to model how the virus might play out there. #swinefluvaccine

OK, stupid question, but running out of seasonal flu vaccine?! Is this common?

I'm in the UK and had my seasonal flu jab over a week ago. I'm supposed to be in the first group for the anti-oink jab thanks to a medical condition, just waiting for the automated letter to turn up. #swinefluvaccine

And, apparently they are running out of seasonal flu vaccine this year because a) so many people want it this year and b) manufacturers switched over to H1N1 already, neglecting the seasonal flu to a certain extent. #swinefluvaccine

My GP practice sends the vaccination invite. Whether it gets through the Royal Mail strike is something else. :)

My GPs also sent me automatic letters when I lived in France, the Netherlands and New Zealand. The vaccine has been free in each country for seniors and those with medical conditions, IIRC. The insurers cover the cost because it's cheaper than people getting flu. #swinefluvaccine

Ah, that poor kid. I remember at that age, throwing my body around the doctor's squishy examining table, screaming. They had to hold me down every.single.time. I really didn't care if it was going to save my life, because it was a sharp thing going in my body. NO THANKS.
Especially when I broke my arm in kindergarten and my mom told me they were going to give me a shot... in the BUTT. I flipped and they had to get the strongest male nurses on the floor to hold me down. The stupid shot was in my thigh. Lying mother. #swinefluvaccine

@dialing_footnoterphone: My doctor at that age was my next door neighbor, who I trusted in most things. There was definetely a day when I cowered under a table screaming before they got me with the needle. That was when they decided to give me the polio vaccine orally.

I got over the needle thing when I was in a pretty bad car accident in high school. They took a lot of blood that day. Good thing I got over it too, as I know get my blood taken bi-monthly and have to administer a shot to myself each week. ooof. I still look the other way though. #swinefluvaccine
