    So this is a Midwestern thing? That would explain why everyone knew about it - and posts about it on Facebook - back home (home for me = Michigan) while here in Baltimore no gives a fuck. I think like here better as far as this stupid holiday goes. I might use it as an excuse to buy myself some candy though :) #sweetestday

    @Erda: I am from Maryland too but I went to college in Kalamazoo. I had no idea what Sweetest Day was. I'm still convinced it's a fake holiday. #sweetestday

    @linnyt is a walking cliché: Hey, we're like the reverse of each other! (I grew up in Mich - Detroit more specifically - but I'm here in Baltimore for college.) I don't think anyone, even those who celebrate it, disputes that it's a fake holiday. We all believed it was Hallmark-invented though, according to Wikipedia, it was created by a group of candy makers in Cleveland as a promotion. #sweetestday

    My dad always used to buy me Swedish Fish on Sweetest Day and combined the words (Sweedished) so growing up I was massively concerned with why the Swedes had a misprouncing holiday about candy and nobody else did. #sweetestday

    You'd think, with all the relatives I have in Michigan and Minnesota, that I would have heard of this holiday by now. Nope. I suspect it's because they're mostly health nuts. #sweetestday

    Add me to the Wisconsinites who've never celebrated this holiday. I hadn't even heard of it until I went to college in Minnesota, and friends of mine from northern MN did Sweetest Day.
    That said, I'm so craving chocolate right now. And those raspberry candies in the photo. #sweetestday

    Someone told me that Sweetest Day originated as a day to help the less fortunate and orphans, but turned into a sort of Sadie Hawkins Valentine's Day. #sweetestday

    I was an Army brat and didn't grow up in Ohio, but that's where my family is from and I visited often, and was there a lot for Sweetest Day. I honestly grew up thinking my grandpa made this holiday up as an excuse to buy my grandma more chocolates and flowers.

    Wow, this takes me back. I grew up in NE Ohio and Sweetest day was something of an event in middle school and high school. There was a Sweetest Day dance and everything.

    I'm only 31 so this wasn't all THAT long ago either. ;) #sweetestday

    I never know if I'm counted when NYers refer to the midwest. I live in Idaho, and it often gets referred to as midwestern, but I think that's just people confusing Iowa, Ohio and Idaho. #sweetestday

    @f-words: Too true! I am from Ohio and people ALWAYS confuse it with Iowa, especially here in the UK. (I guess they do sound similar, especially if you aren't too familiar with them.) #sweetestday

    @f-words: UGH, Idaho is the WEST. The MIDwest ends after the Dakotas (in my opinion).

    And there's only 50 states (some of which are directional, so they're even easier to memorize!) I don't understand why people get it twisted. #sweetestday
