    For some reason I really hate the way the ray of light intersects with the back of the jacket in the TSE ad. It makes it look like he melts when the sun hits him... and totally throws off the spatial relationship between him and the wall. *confused*

    I love that the Demarchelier photos are not trying to be natural. There's not much that's natural or "normal" about high fashion, why pretend - make it minimalist and futuristic and fascinating to look at. I don't intend to want to BE that, I want it to be beautiful, and it is.

    These pictures aren't people, they're posed still-life renditions of people. The limited actions described are nearly impossible, and largely unnatural. But, great composition...

    I like both ads expecially the Calvin Klein one. It has a simplicity that is rarely see in ads ... I find some ads forget about the clothes which is what they're selling and why there are ads in the first place and clutter it with background, too many models, large font etc.


    As for originality in fashion, there is no such thing. There is however the fashion cycle - something says quiet for a couple decades, sometimes not even that long (ex. the 70s boho look that is popular now was popular a five or six years ago), suddenly comes back and has a resurgence.

    I don't think there's a difference in blatantly copying or taking inspiration. If we've seen it before, it's copying. That's not necessarily and bad thing.


    AND who finds those male model even remotely attractive? Give that kid a sandwich and a shot of testosterone (I don't know if I spelled that right)

    anyway, the coat isn't doing him any favors, I'll agree, but pretty much just looks like a bad fit for that model. When anything is this stark, be it minimalist interiors or photos, it must be impeccable because there is less to distract from flaws. It didn't happen here, unless they were going for a depression era, haphazard look in a minimal scene.

    The hair in Patrick Demarchelier pictures is amazing. Or maybe it just reminds me of human lamps... but something about it really is intriguing.

    The TSE campaign is mostly ripping off the raf simons jil sander via hedi slimane for dior homme shit mostly.
    the only thing it has in common with the CK ad is uh... well i cant think of anything really.
