My mom lives by Vaseline and rubbing alcohol. I think lately she has switched to Oil of Olay though, might be less expensive than petroleum these days!

Indeed I too have gone the inexpensive route when choosing my products, but I never buy Vaseline. It makes an excellent makeup remover, however.

I've found that pawpaw ointment works WONDERS, but I think it's petroleum-based, meaning the same as vaseline. I rub some onto my eyelashes at night after I've taken off my makeup, and after a while I'm solidly convinced that they're longer and nicer than they used to be.

@Rummy_McGin: Yes, but not if you are using condoms. Because petroleum based products eat away at the latex and cause condoms to break or become less effective.

I actually hate putting ANYTHING oil-based on my skin and hair because at the ripe old age of 26, I'm still acne-prone, and my skin is some serious Exxon Valdez shit. I don't even use a moisturizer--I don't need it.

I know this will probably change as I get older, and I understand that everyone's skin is different and some people need different things. I personally am working on converting all this damn sebum to biodiesel. Lord knows I have enough of it.

@tscheese: Weirdly one of the best things for oily skin is cleanse at least once a week with oil...

I can't explain the science to you properly because I'm crap that way, but basically oil attracts oil and hydrates the skin, so it is less likely to produce too much of its own oil to hydrate your skin.

Pretty much every oily skinned client I had when I was a make up artist found it helped. I used grapeseed oil as it's cheap and loaded with anti-oxidants!

I have a stranger beauty tip--Crisco! It's the only thing that will keep my dry skin at bay (recommended by a dermatologist)..I just put it under my eyes, on my hands, feet, and my neck...It's wonderful stuff

Yes, it's crazy..But try it one night & you'll see

Tyra taught me another use for my Vaseline. Apparently you should take a wet towel and rub you lips and get them wet, then put some Vaseline on them and leave it there for about 5 minutes. Then take an old toothbrush and brush your lips. All the dead, chappy skin comes off and your lipstick goes on more smoothly.

Also, going at your feel with the Ped-Egg and then putting Vaseline all over them and covering them with a pair of socks. Smooth toesies.

Hmmm, what else? A little Vaseline on your cheekbones makes you look all dew-ey. And you can mix it with some makeup to make it look shinier.

Basically, I love this stuff.

I wouldn't really call it a beauty product - I use it on my lips whenever I'm at home because chap stick is not nearly as good for you. And I can't imagine a product less offensive to a stinging, overblown nose. If your hands are ridiculously chapped, it's much cheaper to smear vaseline on them, put on some old gloves (to eliminate icky smearing) and go to bed than to get the good, expensive lotion.

And someone has to say it - it does magic things to an itchy butt.

I'm posh, so I use Rosebud's Lip Salve, which also works great on dry areas on my face due to winter conditions, and on chafed noses (I also use Neosporin for that. And rub Neosporin on my nostrils when I fly - a tip from Rachel Zoe, my icon).

I have incredibly atopic skin. Everything makes me itchy, red, and flaky. In the face of such overwhelming dryness/irritation, Vaseline is about as useful to me as a baseball cap is to the pope. Vaseline, thy name is futile.
