That's the worst PBS doc. It would have been so much better had they gotten a contemporary woman to recreate Oakley's feats, but instead we're treated to women's studies profs droning on.

I had a Annie Oakley biography for children that I used to read over and over when I was little, and I thought she was *so awesome*. I'd love to see that documentary sometime to see what was true and what wasn't.

It's like she is getting ready to defend against a massive zombie invasion at her place. WTF? No. of guns I owned then and now: Zero.

Pretty interesting doc... She distinguished herself from the titillating female burlesque performers by designing her own modest, yet non-restrictive clothing, excelling in her chosen male-dominated field, and advocating women in the workforce.

Worth a look - a window to another time...

When I was a little girl, I thought Annie Oakley was about the coolest thing possible. I developed a near-obsession with the original cast soundtrack of the Ethel Merman-lead "Annie Get Your Gun." My brother and I also choreographed an elaborate dance around the song "Anything You Can Do" that involved him lip synching the male vocals and me playing the part of Ethel. We'd wear cowboy hats for this. On "An Old Fashioned Wedding," we'd switch which parts we lip synched to.

Eventually, my mom had to institute a "no Annie Get Your Gun before bed" rule, because we'd get so wound up that she wouldn't get us to sleep until 11.

@hello.kitty: Mr. Pants found a DISCO version EP of the Merm singing "There's No Business Like Show Business", and because he is twisted, he bought it. It was about as horror-inducing as you would imagine. The cover art haunts my dreams.

@morninggloria: Ohh that is amazing. I've been fortunate enough to see it on Broadway, and it was fan-fucking-tastic. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the musical. But I'm glad they "updated" the ending. Because the old ending is just...no. Although really, it's still kind of dated in a lot of ways. But I still love it.
