I used to read the sugar sites (popsugar, fabsugar, fitsugar, etc) all the time before I discovered jezebel. then I realized they made me feel vaguely the same way as too many hours reading lady mags does: fat, poor and tragically plain jane. pitooey.

I stay warm in the winter by not going outside unless absolutely necessary, and when I do have to go outside, I repeat the following mantra to myself:

"I am not going to die en route. I am not going to die en route. I am not going to die en route."

I have yet to die of hypothermia.

Yeah, this was something I actually had to re-learn recently. See, I grew up in New England, but now I live in Los Angeles and just go back for two weeks at Christmas and one week at Thanksgiving. And I got so good at living in LA that I forgot how to dress for cold, and froze for a couple years before I remembered that I always used to wear shirts under my sweaters. I still don't have wool socks or legitimately warm sweaters or a hat or boots made for snow and not fashion, but I got a nice, fuzzy scarf this year! So, you know, progress...

Or, you could sew some down pillows together and stuff them inside of a thin coat, making what I like to call a "down jacket". It looks a bit silly, but it's creative and warm.

What about tips on looking fashionable and chic when you have to wear long-johns every fucking day for the last two weeks? How about those huh? Oh, I should tuck my gloves into my sleeves? Really? If I don't do that around here I'd DIE. And, actually, I don't tuck in my gloves because I don't wear gloves. THEY'RE NOT FUCKING WARM ENOUGH! I wear mitts with other mitts tucked inside them, and THEN I tuck them into my sleeves. EVERYTHING much be tucked and cinched AT ALL TIMES, or I will literally PERISH.

(Um, sorry. It's been really cold here since before Christmas. It's been around -32C/-26F, -40 with the windchill. Today is the first day I'm not wearing long-johns to work because it's a fairly balmy -15C/+5F. I'm getting a little punchy.)
