With Rep. Bart Stupak on the rampage and the passage of their major health care legislation at stake, Democrats are now considering having President Obama sign an executive order effectively banning any taxpayer money from paying for abortions.
Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl (Ariz.) said he expected that all but a few Republicans would support the Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-Neb) amendment, which would restrict access to abortions for women who receive federal subsidies.
All talk of death panels has petered out. Sarah Palin and her "conservative" ilk have largely remained silent. The issue concerning the Stupak-Pitts amendment has dominated the news cycle, leaving Democrats and their constituents to battle it out.
