As a representative from the Jezebel Department of Canadian Affairs (Niagara Region OR Queen's University chapter), I'd like to inform the 'Mericans that Beaver Tails are an "Ottawa thing" not a "Canada (or even Ontario)thing." Just in case, due to the publicity, beare tails became the next igloos or Celine Dion.
@LadyeJayne: And Elephant Ears should not be confused with des oreilles de crisse, which translates to "Christ's Ears", a popular snack at Quebec sugar shacks.
I was there when he got the tail! You can see the back of my head in one of the pics. Was awesome. That would never have happened in the US, (well, perhaps a small town somewhere)it was so cool. On my way to the store, next thing I know I am shaking the President's hand! I lived in DC for years, just moved, and now I meet a President!
@hammerimissu: Also: Wealth is a fantasy, no economic boom lasts forever, greedy folks excel in politics, sending palettes of shrink-wrapped American cash to Iraq without accounting for it can affect the deficit, etc.
"North Korea bristled at being described as "an outpost of tyranny" by the Bush administration, and one analyst said Clinton's comments could trigger more anger from Pyongyang which may have hoped for a softer line from the new U.S. government."
I am trying to imagine what kind of softer line they might have been imagining. 'O hai guys! Do you like me? Circle Yes or No.'
The story is always the same: Republicans state publicly that they don't want pork, that pork is immoral, that pork is terrible, that pork shouldn't ever be had before marriage, and then behind closed doors, they're porking all over the place, often times consuming said pork in ways perverted enough to make the biggest pork lovers among us feel a bit queasy.
Pork in airport restrooms! Pork with other people's wives! Pork in the butt!
@morninggloria: Pork butt! My mom would buy that from the butchers shop when we used to live in the country. Who knew it was so available in the booming metropolis of Washington DC.
@morninggloria: I also don't recall this level of nit picking during: (1) all of the massive, massive Iraq appropriation bills and (2) during the wall street bail out.
@morninggloria: Don't you remember former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato's pork song back in the day?
Best part of that embarrassing display? He was the BIGGEST pork barreler for NY, EVER. He called out everyone, and yet, when you went through his record, he had more pork reserved for NY than a hog farm in Indiana.
Republicans are not very smart. And Wilbur and Charlotte are not amused.
@rosasparks: My office is chock full of republicans. Yesterday, a couple of them were jabbering around my desk about how it would make them happy if Obama were IMPEACHED and I said, in a very mean manner, "Yeah, that's a good idea. Reinstate George W Bush. BECAUSE IF HIS PLAN TO PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY HAD SUCCEEDED EVERYONE WOULD BE IN SUCH AN AWESOME POSITION RIGHT NOW AND OUR COUNTRY WOULD JUST BE A GIANT EXPLOSION OF HAPPY RIGHT NOW! I'M SO SICK OF YOU FUCKING REPUBLICANS!!!!11!!"
A little late for Argentina to get on the "no anti-Semites" wagon, but I'm assuming most of the Nazi war criminals they sheltered have died by now, which means Williams won't have anyone left to play with even if he stays.
@BeckySharper: The nazi criminals that came to Argentina are outnumbered by a lot of members of the Jewish community that came to our cobntry when other countries in Latin America would not let them in. Yes, it was wrong, but there is more to Argentina than that.
With one of the biggest Jewish communities in our country everyone is upset about the words of this Williams guy.
@Ailatan: Oh believe me, I'm aware that there's a Jewish community in Argentina--my synagogue in NY has very close ties to them. But there's also no doubt that the Argentine gov't (and the Brazilians too) chose to shelter Nazi war criminals. Fortunately, Kirchner doesn't seem to be interested in repeating that mistake and is getting rid of Williams--she has bigger balls than the Pope, who is all talk and no action on this issue.
@BeckySharper: And don't forget Chile. They wouldn't even allow for Jewish people to enter their country. It seems that Argentina only gets the bad reputation.
I think it's an interesting turn of events when Kirchner would not tolerate something that PerĂ³n fostered. Well, we all have to move forward, evem Peronism.
@Ailatan: Unfortunately the US is not much better than Chile--we only took 1,000 Jewish refugees during the war, although we allowed thousands of German soldiers held in US POW camps to remain and become citizens. Frankly, no one was honorable in the way they handled the situation.
I think Argentina gets the bad reputation because of Eichmann and Mengele. There was so much publicity around them that other countries got less attention for doing the same thing.

Gotta be careful, though, Ban Ki-moon has an eagle eye and will totally give detention to note-passers, rabble-rousers and miscreants.
