Katherine Heigl, in my opinion, just does not get it. Is she so wrapped up in the Hollywood model of celebrity and PR, that she would think it perfectly normal to issue a publicity shot of her brand new adopted child to the world, barely before the ink dried on the contract?

Perhaps I should cut her some slack for not being on People or Us this week with said child, but I dislike all celebrities that use their offspring as an affected accessory. And the speed with which this picture follows on the heels of the announcement she made is unseemly.

Poor unaware, oblivious child. Welcome to the world of voracious and rabid celebrity, something you did not ask for, and you will never know that you could not have wanted.

@Opinionatedone: She may be trying to head the paparazzi off at the path; by putting a photo out there, she may be hoping to sate the appetite for the kinds of photos people get by stalking - far more traumatic for a child than a photo shoot, I would think.

I just don't think it's fair to constantly assume we know every little motivation of every celebrity out there. There's always more to the story than we imagine.

@queenieinmanhattan: There is a big difference between "introducing" what you assume is paparazzi-fodder through an appropriately-timed photo and cashing in on another opportunity to spin your image. I do not think for one hot minute that anything this woman does or says is not considered from all angles as to how it contributes to her image. She is well aware of how children are leveraged in her community, and though she may release a tasteful photo as opposed to a tabloid photospread, it is still timed in a way to capitalize on an announcement she chose to make just recently and contributes to MY opinion (which I am entitled to) that she is manipulating what the public thinks of her, yet again... I feel for this child and all the children of celebrities in this day and age. They are commodities; and it is a sad day when the long term affects of using children as such has not resulted in over-protection but instead over-exposure.

I would have way more respect for KH, if I ever could have respect for her, if the child had had some time to acclimate to her completely foreign environment before her "debut". 'Course by then, we may have forgotten those forgettable interviews where KH blew her wad.

I can't help but like Katherine Heigl, even though there's lot of hate for her. I'm happy for her. I like that her adoption doesn't seem as exploitative as other celebrities.
