That's sort of odd, because people aren't necessarily going to replicate the tempo - and some people have no rhythm.

@zu_zu has come to terms with her lack of star:

While there may be small differences in tempo or rhythm between individuals, it is still more accurate than doing a straight count. This has been studied, and it is why the Red Cross has included this advice in their CPR trainings.

Personally, I want a doctor who knows Nile Rogers' oeuvre AND that Green Day and Lady Gaga have new albums. That tells me they are both thoroughly grounded in historical techniques but are cognizant of new trends and know how to adapt.

@LaComtesse: i'm thinking that she misspoke and that she was actually relaying directions to the emergency dispatcher (not the EMTs) while resuscitating her husband... or that those were some incredibly incompetent EMTs :)

@LadySoprano is a Fat-Fighting Superwoman: Yeah, I know. Both songs have relatively the same BPM (beats per minute) but they choose the one about biting the dust. Doctors have such morbid humor sometimes.
