How Facebook Status Updates Are Ruining Your Post-Election Social Life |

I then posted a rant about how I don't find forced political humor that humorous, and that a good joke will make even the opposition laugh (sorry, daily show fans. not funny)
That weeded the serious ones out and left me with some really actually funny stuff in the inbox from people I agree AND disagree with- anyone that can laugh when they're defeated is ok in my book. and may change their mind because of their interactions with me.

I was not terribly surprised when, three days out, she was undecided and had claimed to have done "a lot of research" (which was patently untrue). I'm pretty sure she went for McCain. The only other person on my f-list who wasn't pro-Obama (including the Aussies watching our election, about 1/2 of my friends) was my best friend from 7th grade who has changed so drastically I keep her as a friend just so I can be baffled periodically. Neither has said anything post-election.

"Obama is Hitler. He is going to start up concentration camps."
I was like WTF. She use to be such a sweet girl.
she also posted a bulletin about how her friend, ME, is an ignorant asshole who believe everything Obama says. She again likened him to Hitler and blamed Democrats for the state of the economy is in.
I posted back: Bitch please. Step off. Your brain is obviously leaking and to be honest- your ignorance and you stupid is showing.
I do not need people like her in my life. Its silly to defriend people just cause they dont feel the same way you do but bitch crossed the line.

than live,
with rich pricks "pissing on my head and calling it rain."

Are you sure you don't mean "...than live with rich pricks paying my welfare check"?

Allow me to explain:
As coined by conservative pundits, the drinking of Kool-aid symbolizes unquestioned faith in liberal values - taken from "cult followers in French Guyana drank poisoned Kool-Aid under the direction of charismatic leader, Jim Jones."
The "golden shower" is a play on the psychology of Reagan-era "trickle-down" or "voodoo" economics. By subsidizing corporations and trusting CEOs to drive the economy with no regulation, America is institutionalizing the virtues of fear and greed. Giving big business a disparate advantage ultimately only helps big business and stifles competition and entrepreneurship.
Therefore, if so-called conservatives keep selling the fantasy of becoming "rich like them," and exercising policies of corporate welfare, while letting education go unfunded, and giving no oversight to the core of the financial system, and lying about foreign policy objectives, they will keep losing elections.

i have many members of my family who are VERY conservative. it doesn't bother me at all. i am neither republican nor democrat. it's a free country - they are entitled to have their own opinion about political matters, however well- informed or ill-informed they are, and that goes for both conservative and liberal folks.
it only bothers you if you let it. variety is the spice of life! if all we do is talk to people who think and feel exactly like we do, then what is learned? how do you grow?

Ding! Dead on. You are so right.
This applies to all areas of life, not just politics.

I don't understand the dogmatic nature of all these libertarians and their sick obsession with the virtues of the free market. Do they not see all the income disparity?
One kid I know doesn't think healthcare should be a right. He's an ass, too. Also a libertarian.
At least I only know two!

So, it wouldn't be a big deal to remove her, but so far I haven't. I'm also surprised the Mormon I crushed on in junior high (it's a woeful tale) hasn't removed me from his list with all me pro-gay stuff.
The only one I really feel bad about is a dear sweet friend of mine who is so nice but for some reason votes Republican. We're fairly close, and she doesn't seem to have any problem with gay people or any of the typical social issues, so I'm guessing she's either fiscally conservative or following what her parents do. Either way, she's still really nice and I can't begrudge her (too much) her vote for McCain. Although I had to cut off the convo when she said she liked Palin.

On the plus side, I was struck by how gracious my Republican friends were via Facebook, either congratulating Obama supporters and so forth. One even wrote an extremely thoughtful "note" explaining why he didn't want to vote for him. While I don't feel Obama represents my views for the most part, I'm quite impressed by him as a person and really do appreciate the historic nature of his win.
Being racist or anti-Islamic is just plain wrong. It has nothing to do with what size you believe government should be.

If I had known him better I might have commented to say I needed to school him on all the things wrong with that statement and start to debate the issue, but I really didn't know him and also remembered him from basketball and football games in which he called guys on the other teams fags and made mom jokes, while on facebook noting that he'd be attending some church event or another (wow long sentence). I mean I'm crazy at football games too and there's nothing wrong with church but yelling out that somebody's a fag in a derogatory manner doesn't seem so love thy neighbory IMO.

@pansyriot: I posted a rant too, but on Stuff.co.nz.
