Every time I see a photo like this, after bursting into tears the first thing I want to do is slap George W. Bush. Hard. Then I want to see that he spends the rest of his life attending the funerals of every single serviceman and woman who lost their life in Iraq and Afghanistan. @Little Time Bomb: I'm advocating making a decision, but since you're asking, I think we should bounce and let that country deal with its own civil war. We were dumb enough to believe we could institute a little Jeffersonian democracy in Afghanistan, and that hasn't worked out, so let's back off and treat Afghanistan like any other failed state with an al Quaeda presence. #staffsgtvernonmartin

@Kivrin: I usually enjoy your comments, (hearted and everything) this one left a bad taste in my mouth though.
Staff Sgt. Martin died in Afghanistan, I don't know his personal position on the matter but, most service members consider Afghanistan a valid target. I can only hope that as someone who joined the Army 2004, after we were in both Afghanistan and Iraq, he believed in what he was doing. I hope that he and he family felt that he was making life better for both the people of Afghanistan and for the people he loved at home. I'm so saddened that he and 7 other men lost their lives, but the idea that soldiers are doing meaningful work is what keeps them and their families sane. I don't think it's fair to denigrate the work they are doing as "pointless" out of hand. #staffsgtvernonmartin

@Little Time Bomb: I hope this poor, grieving woman does believe that the war is meaningful, because that faith will undoubtedly help her stay sane. Unfortunately, I have come to believe that the war in Afghanistan is pointless; ergo, the ongoing loss of life in the war drives me insane.

Sorry my comment upset you, but I was expressing my personal distaste for war in general (and the Afghanistan war in particular).
