I refuse to believe that a movie with those three in it can be anything but awesome... unless some exec fucked it up with 'helpful notes' or 'editing based on the opinions of a test audience i.e. 50 people who had nothing better to do on a Wednesday than watch an unreleased movie for swag.'

This makes me think about that tv series, Campus Ladies. I thought that was freakin' hilarious, and yet it was only on WE or something and didn't get much (any?) press.

I saw this movie at a test screening and it was GREAT. The audience loved it, and in the focus group afterwards, everyone said how great it was to see such a hilarious, pro-feminist comedy.

Seriously, this is a good movie that deserves to be released on the big screen. It is sympathetic, smart and funny and, best of all, very pro-woman.

All shitty, shitty movies should go straight to DVD, male, female, hermaphroditic, canine, feline, what the fuck ever.

The only acceptable shitty movies being released into movie theaters are shitty dramatic movies that are unintentionally HILARIOUS. For an example, please see: Wickerman, The (2006 Nicholas Cage Remake).

I have to say, all signs point to "shitty movie" on this one. Sigh.

When Hollywood stops being run by men looking to whore out the newest Pretty Young Thing at the expense of actual talent, I might be willing to believe their decisions had more to do with "quality." Until then...

I sometimes judge contemporary films by the titles and images released for promotion. Based on the title and that posted pic, I would expect the worst. Just because Amy Poehler and Rachel Dratch are funny, does not mean the film will. Also most films made with SNL stars have not done well. Period.

@SisterMaryMartha is GOLDEN.: It seems to me like the SNL skit-to-movies that have done well are the ones where each skit presented a snapshot of a much larger world that you actually wanted to hear about -- I'm thinking specifically of Wayne's World and Coneheads, where there was more to the story, the characters and the world they created than just one or two running gags (Night at the Roxbury, Ladies Man, Pat..)

@SisterMaryMartha is GOLDEN.: @Mkp-hearts-nyc: Well Adam Sandler's movies did well -- and those were not based on skits (this one is not, right?) And Mike Meyers has done rather well for himself. I mean there have definitely been a lot of duds, but also Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd. Though I know that's old school.

@rocknrollunicorn: Don't forget Steve Martin! I was thinking in terms of SNL characters...because most SNL stars used their best known characters as vehicles to establish themselves. Tina Fey didn't, Amy Poehler didn't, though. I also think it depends on how quickly they try to get a film career started. Mike Myers and Adam Sandler, I feel like, started making movies after only 1-2 years on the show, while Tim Meadows waited waay too long.

i get the annoyance over this, but there are soooooo many movies that get made and never get released, for a number of unknown reasons. sometimes they get sent to DVD, sometimes their released in foreign countries and never get screened here. the movie business is a crazy one.

I've seen `I Could Never Be Your Woman` and it really wasn't very good. Not awful, but the decision to keep the Tracy Ullman "Mother Nature" character was a bad one. The title was also not good, and actually untrue in the scope of the movie. And, I'm just talking about the content of the film which was, to me middle of the road romcom standard. I read somewhere that there were a ton of issues getting it out at all.

I really, really wanted to like it, I just couldn't.

@lucyjae: Ugh that movie was terrible. And it wasn't just the idea of Michelle Pfeifer not being able to get a date, cause in Hollywood that is very possible. It was the play on the idea of Stacey Dash, who does look great, playing a 17 year old, which I guess is hilarious b/c Heckerling had her do it 13 years ago in Clueless and then randomness of everything. The movie was a total loss for me, but I think it could have been so much better.
