Watching my cats "talk" is amazing. They really do have a different meow for humans than themselves or with other animals. They really do sound very different when making sounds at birds or dogs (and it's not fear since they like this dog). It's like the meow we like is their human accent.

It's kind of crazy, that we're learning a zillion things at that age--face and speech recognition, emotional expression, physical coordination--but don't really actively remember learning any of it.

Oh, and on her behalf (because she's probably too classy), I'll say, "Bite me, Ann Coulter." Hot, successful, contentedly-single, black mother with a daughter at Yale.

The Bush dinners, by contrast, are given solely to high-paying political contributors, Mr. Bushs's friends, and B-list celebrities. Much of the etiquette expected at a state dinner (salad forks and fingers bowls) have been tossed by the wayside so hamburgers can be served to visiting diginitaries, who are (not surprisingly) shocked.
Call me old fashioned but I find Ms. Roger's post incredibly important as the Obama administration works to regain the respect our country has lost in 8 short years. Make the White House back into the shining example of the best America has to offer Ms. Rogers!
