Lilly class connotations are now extinct, and Lilly prints are just plain amusing if you came to them new and didn't realize that dreadful Farmington onus existed back when.

I love this stuff, but it never fits right. I'm exotic looking and short and curvy, I think it's styled to only fit tall thin WASPy ladies...hmph.

Ugh. I went to undergrad surrounded by sorority girls who constantly raided the Lily boutique. They look like they should either be playing shuffle board on a cruise ship for over 65s or one those obnoxious women who dress like their children - and forces their husbands to do the same.

@GretchenWeiners: Did you go to UVA, too? I hate anything Lilly Pulitzer with a firey passion because it represents the stuck-up sorority snobs in pearls that are all too abundant at that school.

I really like Lilly. The stuff is really well made, and definitely cheery and screams New England summer on the Cape. When I find them in the consignment store, they're always some of the pieces in the best shape. I don't care if it screams "OMG Lilly!" It also screams "It's above 70 in New England and I'm going to enjoy it, damnit."

I have several Lilly dresses. They are no longer really my style, but I still wear them because they are at least flattering and cool when it is 100 degrees outside.

Mine are actually somewhat unique in that they have all been altered (Lilly runs very large so it doesn't fit me off the rack), some so much as to change the design. People who like Lilly a lot always ask me where I found them because they have never seen the designs before (I add straps, shorten, move the trim, etc etc)

Also, if you REALLY want to see some scary stuff, you mustn't look past the lovely 'Vineyard Vines' and 'Nantucket Reds'. Don't even ask why my states' two most famous islands insist on peddling this crap, I've asked myself TOO many times.

How can you NOT wear a shift covered in sunshine and glee without a smile on your face? The color just radiates.

So, apparently, I need to hit up the resale shop for more Lilly...

Ahh yes, my mother's very good friend has the main bathroom in her house decorated in 'Lilly Pink & Green' and wears this crap year round. She also wears lots and lots of David Yurman jewelry and only buys Gucci purses that are immediately recognizable... I think it's a disease, personally.

@Twerpsichore: Totally with you. I love it. It looked more normal - or got fewer stares - when living in my native New England or in New York. In CO it's not quite usual to have lobsters on your sundress. But I MUST have lobsters on my sundresses.

(Yes I'm from Massachusetts and summer on the Cape, why do you ask? haha)
