    i'm crying. my mom was a single parent and she went through so much (but unlike many had a BS in biochem which enabled her to get a good job after my dad left and was given a free ride to her MBA from her employer). i feel for the women and children who aren't as fortunate and i want to be that woman.

    @boxspelunker: You might be able to donate even if you don't have a lot of money. Most places have wishlists and a lot of times they will take gently used clothing like winter coats or other in season clothing. If you knit or crochet, they probably need blankets, baby blankets, hats, scarves or mittens.

    I don't have much money either but the lingerie store I got to has a box out for a womens' shelter. They always need bras and panties. So, I usually go during the buy 1 get 1 sales and throw one in the box. It's not a huge donation or anything but any bit helps. #singlemoms

    @Maryscary: I always donate clothing, but right now, I'm struggling to make my rent, so I really can't donate any kind of cash or buy things to donate :/ Frankly, I can't really be buying much right now besides necessities, like food and toothpaste, but when I do have some extra cash, I like to do some sort of charitable thing, because I know it helps. #singlemoms

    The purchasing power of a Mom seems to be all the rage this recession, as though Moms are the only one's left buying stuff cause they're so nurturing towards their family. I've noticed it in the uptick of mainstream interest in Mommy-blogging lately; it's not just about Mom's blogging, but about the fact that they make money an review products, thus having purchasing power.

    The day I went off to college, my dad made gouges in the front yard to back out around my mom's car (she was blocking him in) and race off to work so he wouldn't have to, y'know, say goodbye. We're a German-Celtic family...we don't like having feelings.

    @Catpain Blackudder: HAHA. We're Skandi-Celtic, same deal. My dad drove me to college to help me move in so my mom wouldn't have to get emotional. She did do some of my shopping though, including picking out my nice navy and white bed set.
