Perhaps stylist Robert Verdi has been denied tickets to fashion shows because the Fashion World doesn’t want the rest of us to realise they actually have gay people working in it, let alone gay men. Or it could just be that he isn’t important enough to warrant one right now. As Heidi says, one moment you're in, the next you're out.
I'm kind of disappointed in Tim Gunn after those Lohan comments. I'm not a huge Lindsay fan, but didn't he just say what a pleasure it was to have her on PR? It just seems kind of below him to talk bad about people.
@katie.scarlett.o'hara: I don't blame him. It comes across harsh but fashion people are always too blunt. Ungaro replaced a talented designer who has trained and worked in the industry for years with a celebrity who is not known for her work ethic. It is really insulting to fashion designers, etc to see this kind of spectacle.
@bitchney: I know they got rid of the designer, but is Lohan replacing him? I thought she had some other, more random role. Like some sort of promoter.
@cate3710: I am sure she won't do more than be late to / blow off meetings and smoke cigarettes. They have a "designer" who will do all of the work while this trainwreck gets the credit. I would expect this from Bebe or something, not at a venerable fashion house.
Just goes to show you how ridic the copyrights on clothing designs can be. Its a goddamn sneaker. New Balance didn't reinvent the wheel with that look.
@bluebears: I don't know - that particular edition is THE iconic New Balance sneaker. And charging $590 for a sneaker deserves some sort of punishment anyway.
@dreamweave: heh. yeah. But if you look at saucony and nike they also have varying throwback designs that look pretty similar as well. There's just not that much to reinvent when it comes to a sneaker.
@bluebears: Well, and it's really hard to get a copyright in a pattern or clothing design - which is why knock offs of fashion are so readily available. I wonder if NB has worked hard to protect this one, giving it some cache on the legal front. Otherwise, it's a color scheme and a fabric choice and I have no doubt the LV one is a crap running shoe.
The women from Go Fug Yourself seemed to be pretty impressed by Victoria Beckham's show, but they admit they're biased. They also didn't talk much about the clothes themselves, though I find it cool that VB talked about each individual dress.
Call me cynical, but this whole "oh, I don't really know what's going on with my character after all this writer DRAMA" just smacks of a publicity stunt. And I so don't care anymore.
I think Save the Children makes a good point - unless Madonna is investing the $ in an NGO that already does work on the ground there, has built relationships with the local folks and supports grassroots programs, then simply dropping in and "building and orphanage" (that clearly doesn't have local support) won't do any good. It's the celeb equivalent of doing 2 weeks of HIV/AIDS education development-tourism in Africa when you finish your degree - makes you feel better, but does nothing for people there and probably actually just draws resources away from programs that need them.
@gonewilde: Having read Paul Theroux' "Dark Star Safari" I have a very low opinion of NGOs in Africa. It would be refreshing to find a model to deal with African problems in an Afro-centric way rather than imposing Western values.
But on the other hand, adopting one child at a time and raising him or her in unimaginable luxury hardly seems like the solution to mass starvation, tribal warfare, genocide, AIDS epidemics, overpopulation and so forth.
And it might be noted that Malawi is becoming one of the most prosperous countries in Africa due to their change of agricultural policies and governmental intervention in same.
Oh Miley. That quote would make me sad, but I saw you on the cover of Glamour, so I have used up all my sadness. Really, Glamour? Really? Is it too much to ask that you at least pretend to cater to readers over 14?

Furthermore, he does not "rip off" the other designer; he is inspired by him or her.
You've got to take into account the presence of a muse in fluttering golden gauze guiding his hand.

I can't wait for Joel McHale to make fun of this.
