Here's the thing...they are both dead. Their friends were junkies, addicts or touched with mental illness, which leaves them all about as credible as my grandmother is with the economic stimulus package.
Nancy was hated by most because she was punk Yoko. She ruined the Sex Pistols, what there was to ruin is beyond me. But she will always be hated. Much like Courtney.
I thought Neon Leon killed Nancy? At least that's what they hinted in Please Kill Me (if you haven't read it I positively INSIST that you do as it's fucking amazing).
I get really tired of hearing these dumb 'conspiracy' theories when famous people die. I have friends that are so into this shit and goddmamn it, sometimes i just wanna tell them to quit making some mysterious scandal out of nothing. Kurt shot himself, Marilyn o.d.'ed, elliot smith stabbed his guts, and jim morrison, jimi hendrix, elvis and andy kaufmann ARE DEAD!
It's really lovely and interesting that this chap took the time to explore this option but, uh, it doesn't bring them back and there isn't anyone to hold responsible for her death?
Maybe I'm just a big cynical jerk but I have a feeling this movie won't tell anyone shit about shit a la Kurt & Courtney.
The Sid & Nancy movie pretty much glamorized them for all time, and somehow managed to make making out in the alley while garbage rains on you & dying of a heroin overdose seem romantic. I remained immune only because even the memory of Chloe Webb's screeching ("Siiiidddd!") makes my ears bleed.
Also, that Howie Pyro comment is the dumbest thing I've heard this week (and I was in a room full of drooling stoners on Friday), but probably the best you can expect from someone who names themselves Howie Pyro.
Howie Pyro, there is a difference between self-injury (which afflicts people beyond their teen years, you nitwit) and actually stabbing yourself in the stomach with a hunting knife.
@musicpup: I'm clearing next weekend. I didn't know it but I guess I'm going to stab myself in the stomach till I die, so I have to change a few RSVPs.
@Shannon: Sounds like an awsome way to spend your time. I was thinking of slitting my wrists open again, for money this time. You know. Because that's what young people do - for FUN.
@lydia_gwilt: I've heard stories about him being the murderer when I once stayed at the Chelsea Hotel. One of the long time residents told me about him.
@BlondeGoddess: Seriously, my college roommate introduced me to a big and large guy with glasses in the city in the mid-80's who said his name was Rocket's Red Glare. I remember his emphasis on the "plural possessive apostrophe." Same guy? That would be weird.
@FurrierAndIves: Probably the same guy. When he gave up heroin he got fat. And then he died. The suspicion he killed Nancy started up right away because he brought them the metric buttload of drugs for the binge that led up to her death.
@Eeva: Eh, I'd give Parker a pass. "Evita" wasn't a documentary, and it was based on a musical that he didn't write, so if you wanna throw shade at anyone, call up Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, like I do-- often!
@BabyJane: No, she's in the Chelsea in the beginning of the film. She auditioned to play Nancy. Obviously, she didn't get the role in the film but has spent the subsequent 20 years playing it in life.
Have you seen Alex Cox's follow up "Straight To Hell" in which she has a leading role? It's pure madness.
@squirrelcop: Actually, Rockets was in MYSTERY TRAIN, as the racist liquor store owner who gets shot. It's the segment with Joe Strummer and Steve Buscemi. I think Rockets is also in Scorsese's AFTER HOURS.
The excellent book PLEASE KILL ME has a different theory about who killed Nancy. It's a great read, especially if you have any interest in the beginnings of Punk in New York in the early seventies.
"That's what people like that do, like teenagers who cut themselves."
People should educate themselves before making hurtful, misguided comments like that. Not everything in life is simple enough to lump into groups. What does she mean by "people like that?"
