@JulesNoctambule: I think that's a shame, because "edgy" loses value, but beautiful and well-made do not. Don't get me wrong, edgy has its place, but I don't need to see it all the time.
"People react to quilts like nothing else". This has some validity -- I am more squicked at the idea of wrapping myself in a blanket covered in tiny sperm than I am at the idea of a shirt, or a poster or something with sperm on it.
@undomesticgoddess is addicted to equality: As a knitter, let me say I ADORE KNITTY.COM. Have made several items from their patterns and haven't been disappointed. Love, love, love it!
This makes me want to recruit people for a quilting bee. I will gather the most rockin' grandmas I can find and they will school me on the fine art of constructing handmade quilts bedecked with multi-colored-and-textured sex organs. Who's with me.
@Miss Carrie Nation: Quilt it, you guys! All these puns needle to stop. Otherwise this thread might just get silly, and people will be yarning from boredom.
I have a quilt my mother made titled "the womb quilt". It's multi-layered, sort of like a snuggie but better, you wrap yourself up in it.
However, it's sort of less a womb and more a . . . well . . . vagina. That is, in fact, what my friends call it. One of my friends also insists that it has pubes, because it's tied (it's a method of binding quilts together.)
My mother is a slightly crazy textile artist who tends to do things like this. She also made one with her and my father's outlines quilted into it called "my side of the bed".
@prestocaro love/hates her kettlebell: she does not have a site at the moment, but one of these days she may make one. or i may make one for her. i don't know if she could be talked into recreating the womb quilt though - i'm also not sure how she would react if she knew it's been renamed the vagina quilt.
also, i tend to do the same things with quilts. unless i have a vagina quilt at hand.
however, if you know how to quilt or want to learn, i'm sure i could talk you through vagina quilt instruction.
@argle-bargle? or fou-ferraw?: That episode was hilarious. I mean, brown taco shell bed, meat blanket, lettuce pillow... I may be getting the parts wrong.
@argle-bargle? or fou-ferraw?: @JLady: unfortunately, i don't have photos at the moment :(. they are fantastic though. i can take photos of the womb quilt since i own it now, but i don't know how/where to post them so you can see them?
"my side of the bed" is absolutely gorgeous. it's outlines of my parents from their late 20s or early 30s, curled up each on their sides, their backs touching. the cloth is this very silky smooth cream fabric. the stitching is also cream - she managed to get the bedding such that the figures are thicker than the rest of the quilt. the rest of quilt just traces around the figures in ripples emanating out to the edge.
@o português é muito sexy thinks suits are sexy too: !! That is beautiful! I'm not sure I understand fully how it works, and I don't know how to quilt at all, but making something like that is my new five-year goal.
It looks like your mother is an amazing artist. Thanks for sharing those.
I am all about nostalgic crafts, I just choose knitting over quilting. And this reminds me of that terrifying crocheted Ann Coulter Birthing doll I found last month.

I want a vagina quilt. I always lay on a quilt and tuck the ends over my feet, then roll over, making a quilt burrito.

also? reminds me of the taco bed from the extreme home makeover episode of 'it's always sunny in phildelphia'.
