From Wikipedia: The word "Christ" and its compounds, including "Christmas", have been abbreviated in English for at least the past 1,000 years, long before the modern "Xmas" was commonly used. "Christ" was often written as "XP" or "Xt"; there are references in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as far back as AD 1021. This X and P arose as the uppercase forms of the Greek letters χ and ρ, used in ancient abbreviations for Χριστος (Greek for "Christ"), and are still widely seen in many Eastern Orthodox icons depicting Jesus Christ. The labarum, an amalgamation of the two Greek letters rendered as ☧, is a symbol often used to represent Christ in Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox Christian Churches.[2]
In this case Wiki is the most succinct way of saying this.

Also, after a 36-hour period in which I will have baked chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal bars, peach pie, spice cookies, banana bread and yellow bisque (I call it that because it has like every yellow vegetable ever), I'm looking forward to a Christmas sans cooking anything.

Plus, I'm all about the food so my heathen theme for tomorrow is "fajitas and margaritas."

Going to Vegas today for Christmas, whats more heathen than that!?!
Haven't been home to see the family for the holiday in 3 years, spent the last 2 amazingly wasted with friends.
I really feel like the whole christmas thing is for kids honestly. Christmas just doesn't have that same feeling for me as a grownup.
Oh, well into the car with the dog I go...

My family's tradition's were always secularized, given that my mother is a lapsed Catholic and my father a staunch atheist. I have incorporated other traditions throughout the years, such as celebrating the Winter Solstice (Yule) on Dec 21. I enjoy my po-mo Christmas.

Tomorrow I hope to go to the movies and get a manicure. Yay!

We are Wiccan (hubby and I) and daughter is agnostic. We celebrate from Yule through New Year's and are careless about exact days.
This year is disappointing, though, 'cause we tried to manage to get to Portland to see our daughter and spend her first holiday season there, but the massive blizzard kiboshed our plans. We'll try again when the weather calms down (if the weather calms down).
So, Happy Holidays to everyone for whatever you do or don't celebrate when you do or don't!

Frankly, I find the giant inflatable snowman they have on their lawn more offensive.
