    On Scientology and Christmas:

    I believe this is how it works:

    Scientology co-opted a form of the cross to make it more palatable to Christians in the South and Midwest. The official PR line is that Scientology is a philosophy, not a religion that precludes pre-existing religions; however, the teachings at higher levels explain that all religions come from brainwashing performed on billion-year-old dead spirits that live on in the form of atomic hydrogen and are clouding your ability to succeed in the world. #scientologyholidaycatalog

    @heywhat: That's what I was wondering, but they also use a crucifix as one of their symbols. Can anyone enlighten us on the Scientology-Christianity link? Or did they just think the cross was a nifty symbol, and hey, everyone likes Christmas? #scientologyholidaycatalog

    How can the "Basics" be 18 volumes? There are multi-volume encyclopedias that cover thousands of milestones in world history that aren't that long. 18 volumes of "basics" on a nutty cult? I'd hate to see how long the complete and unabridged version is.

    @Imogen Quest: Not just billions, trillions! Never mind that the universe is only 14 billion years old... For Scientology, L Ron's ravings always trump actual science.

    The scan of "Technique 88" is actually mistranscribed — the blurb says "74 trillion years ago" not "74 million years ago". That's what they really believe! They're trained out of critical thinking very, very early on. #scientologyholidaycatalog

    I remember gathering around the TV with my family to watch the L. Ron and Rudolph Christmas Special. Once cleared of body thetans Rudolph's nose begins to glow, Hermey "fair games" his supervisor, and Sam the Snowman is declared SP and shunned by the others.
