    And yes Jay Leno, thank you for being honest. I've always wondered what rich folk were doing when they get hospitalized for exhaustion. Anyone have any ideas? I've never heard of any working class person being exhausted after working 50 or 60 hour weeks- for a couple of years while chasing three children in their free time.

    @Merkin: It also sounds like this happened long before she won the Oscar. She says she was "a bit well known" when it happened, which could have been over a decade ago. Not that that makes it better, but it's a little more understandable coming from a woman in her early twenties than one in her thirties with an Oscar and a happy personal life.

    @mysterygirl: I think it was more than a decade ago. Winslet was well-known in England for a television show she did when she was a teenager. A friend of mine worked with her and hasn't got a bad word to say about her. In fact, Winslet seems to be generally beloved in her profession.

    I'm mixed on that Kate Winslet quote. It is sweet revenge to grow from pain and torment and become successful and well-adjusted, but kind of bitchy to laugh at someone who is living a commoner's life and not doing anything exciting or glamourous.

    @beatrice2000: She was also 19 when this incident she's referring to happened. It was when she was nominated for an award for her role in Sense and Sensibility. So the wounds inflicted by make up counter girl still could have been pretty recent. I don't know, I'm not ready to hate on her yet.

    I think I might be alone in this, but I really don't agree with what Winslet said to the counter girl. Pointing out the failures of others is really nasty, no matter how mean she was to you when you were young. If she made you that much stronger, you wouldn't have felt the need to belittle her for your own personal gain. Sorry!

    @Samanthrax is Sarcastic: I thought it was kind of immature and graceless, actually. If someone was a real jerk to you in the distant past, and you find out they're not as successful as you are, it's one thing to revel a little in the schadenfreude. It's another thing to RUB IT IN THEIR FACE.


    The best revenge is to live well and to treat your former detractors with ice-cold civility, isn't it? There's no reason to bring up 9th grade when you're a fucking grown-ass adult with a swimming pool full of money.

    @Samanthrax is Sarcastic: I agree with you. I mean, she's Kate frigging Winslet. The other woman knows she's gorgeous, successful, rich, etc. It would've been enough to just go over and tell her "thanks for being a bitch." The putting her down for working at a makeup counter is pretty mean. Being successful doesn't make you better than someone.


    Then again, I guess it depends on how really awful the girl was to her. If she did unspeakably cruel things to her, sure, give it to her.
