5) Patrick Stewart enters cast and marries Samantha

6) Sanaa Lathan is added to the cast

7) Edgar Ramirez is added to the cast

I really liked the tv show but I thought the movie was bad. The last season had really wrapped things up nicely and everyone had grown, and was at a good place in their lives. I thought the movie was like a caricature of the show, all the women went backwards from what they'd achieved already, and they didn't even act like themselves. Carrie and Big's cold feet storyline was absurd after the events of season 6. I will not see the next movie, as I'm already pretending the last one wasn't canonical.

Well, people who think women reaching mid-life can't be sexy are dumb, and so no, that's not what I meant. I haven't read many reviews of this flick, so sorry if I came off like one of those unpleasant people you mentioned. But I kind of have the same visceral reaction to this as I do to the later Roger Moore Bond movies, you know? They're middle-aged characters who don't seem emotionally developed beyond age 28, so I just meant they're kinda old in context.

I knew a (white) acquaintance who drove around drunk in that neighborhood once. Dumbshit move for a variety of reasons, of course. The cops pulled him over and were like, "WHY ARE YOU HERE?!" They didn't even book him for a DUI; they just impounded his car for the night and dropped him off at a friend's house. Yeah, no preferential treatment in Chicago.

@BearDownCBears: I used to joke with people who asked about the safety of neighborhoods around Hyde Park that I could run down the streets at 3 am, naked and intoxicated with $20 bills pasted all over my body, and no one would do anything to me because they don't want that kind of police attention in those neighborhoods, the kind of police attention that comes to Englewood when a white girl gets assaulted vs. a black girl.

Very sad.

i wouldn't mind this show nearly as much if it didn't mean that it existing meant there are a million of my friends who try to convince me it's not only the greatest show ever conceived, but that it directly parallels their lives and is so clever and well written.

Ladies: you and your friends are not the SATC characters. If you are: shoot yourself. Also, it is NOT well-written. Stop saying it is. If you like it, chock it up to mindless entertainment and stop trying to convince me!!

@LaComtesse: I would argue that each season boasted a few well-written episodes, and the first season (aside from the on-screen asides Carrie would make), was decent as far as first seasons generally go, and made the source material actually seem better-written than it actually was. But that snark was quickly replaced by "labels and love" (groans), and by the last season the best episodes were dark instead of darkly funny, such as the one featuring Charlotte's miscarriage.

Is it sad that I've never seen the show and wouldn't put down $9 of my hard earned money for this? SATC is so far from my real life that I don't even want to fantasize about it. Just give me a strong female character who doesn't need a dude to complete her, and a decent story to send it all along? PRETTY PLEASE, Hollywood?

Well, unless you look at Samantha's escapades, Miranda's job as a lawyer, Carrie's lifestyle and their chances to dress however they want as "empowerment", then yes, it is.

Shameless money-grubbing!

I could just about put up with the series, but only in small doses, because I just couldn't stand SJP for some reason. Haven't bothered with the film. I spent all my money seeing the Dark Knight (and Heath Ledger in that sexy make up) seven times at the cinema. Money, I feel, very well spent!

I loved the show. I loved the movie.

But I thought the movie ended well. It didn't leave me pissed off and clawing for more - as though there were unanswered questions.

Season 6 and the movie kinda tied up loose ends. Don't go un-tying double knots. Tuck em in your shoe and let's move on.
