    I love GaGa for being different and odd. I think I'd be like her. I'd wear tons of eye makeup, really amazing shoes and probably skip the pants. I think the knows what she is doing. And it's refreshing.

    I think she will have a long career in the gay circuit, but I'm not sold that she can maintain being mainstream forever.

    Didn't 'Poker Face' also go to #1 earlier this month... ? So, that sort of debunks the whole one-hit-wonder thing. Anyhow, I love her and her music. Rich at Fourfour did a great write-up about her brilliant American Idol performance that made me appreciate her even more.

    One hit wonder. I can't deal with her "eccentric" behavior. It is embarrassingly calculated.

    Her music really doesn't do her justice in a way. She is incredibly talented- she went to Tisch, she writes songs for herself and others, can sing well, can dance, and makes all of her stage props. Her music is somewhat generic and mainstream, but she knows what works.

    I respect the fact that she's genuinely trying to elevate pop music to an art form and not relying on the fact that she's cute and can sing. Yeah, she looks like a total nutjob most of the time, but she's doing something different and risky which is admirable in today's music scene.

    In reply to Lady GaGa: One Hit Wonder Or Actual Artist?
    In London there's a real resurgence of 'club kids' doing the whole 80s/90s thing of dressing 'outrageous' and making similar music to her. They too claim to be 'living art' and I believe some of them really resent Gaga for stepping on their territory. As someone who happily went to Boombox dozens of times, and who loves Leigh Bowery I just think it's all a snooze. T

    ake away the loaned silly clothes and she's exactly the same as Pussycat Dolls et al just with a tad more posturing. Wearing daft clothes does not an artist make.

    @nessalicious:

    Urgh, I concur. I never met particularly interesting people at Boombox, only people who enjoyed having their photograph taken. It didn't matter how many interviews Gareth Pugh did where he said it was "like a youth club for creatives", I still usually found it, for the most part, vapid and unwelcoming.

    A golden mermaid costume is not an adequate substitute for a personality.

    @Philippa Snoulton: I do agree about the majority of people there, and it could be phenomenally dull, but I love tacky music and I loved climbing the speaker sets to dance around and drip sweat onto everyone.

    I agree though, do not dress up and then stand around all night looking pouty because no-one's taking your picture! DANCE MONKEYS DANCE!

    My 10 year old daughter loves her, and I think it rocks that she has a strangely awesome woman to listen to (despite the discussion of disco sticks). I hope she sticks around a bit. The longer she sticks around, the longer I have before I have to go back to listening to Radio Disney on the way to softball practice.

    I'm not really into most of the current (pop, hip/hop, lame 'rock') artists, but for some reason I like her music. It is pop with a techno vibe in it. And this I find surprisingly refreshing.

    Does anyone remember that SNL sketch "Schprockets" with Mike Meyers as 'Dieter' and his female cohort who "does not have a formal Christian name. I am called 'Exclamation Point'"? Lady GaGa reminds me of her...
