    Ugh, this is just plain psychotic. I genuinely cannot fathom her motives on this, there's no angle whatsoever. She's got no real excuse for abandoning office,no personal crisis, no scandal, nada. I hope she's planning on quitting politics in general while she's at it, because she is about to take whatever credibility she had left and chuck out out the window, where it will presumably land on Putin's front lawn.

    I just caught a clip of her speech on CNN and she was babbling on with some basketball analogy and sounded nervous. Not folksy, not unduly confident (as usual): NERVOUS, folks.

    @gangey: That sounds about right to me. Though, I have to say, at this point, I'm primed for weirdness, what with general weirdness and GOP weirdness abounding these days. (Also, and not incidentally, I am sad to say that it would make me happy to have it be crazy weirdness, so that might be affecting my judgment as well...!)

    @gangey: I hope this is going to be something that absolutely shatters any chance she had for the 2012 pres. race. Seems strange that she'd suddenly resign during her first term. I could see not wanting to run again in 2010 out of fear of losing, but to resign in the middle of your term? Sketchy.

    @onestrawplz: SP seems to often feel that she knows better than her advisers, etc., but this is weird even for her. Being governor is not a contract position that ends when you're "done" and resigning for supposedly no reason is kind of bizarro, although not totally inconsistent with her megalomaniacal behaviour in the past.

    The MSNBC article quotes her as saying:

    "We know we can affect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference," she said, adding that politics had become a "superficial, wasteful bloodsport."


    Interesting. I can only hope this really means no more Sarah Palin in any political office for good (and how can she hope to be taken seriously without even finishing out her term?!). I don't care what else she does-- go be a pundit! Have a ball!

    Her speech right now is really weird. I don't like her at all, but she is usually a pretty decent public speaker. Now, though, she's talking super fast and not saying much of anything (certainly not anything that makes sense). It's just odd.

    Not that she is brilliant at the strategery, but it seems like resigning for purposes of running for office, whether for Senate next year or President in '12 would be kind of a dumb move. Like, it's kind of expected that you stay in office while campaigning, yes? Sort of multitasking.


    I just fervently hope this means we will hear less of her for the next, oh, eleventy billion years.

    I'm with the scandal speculators. No one gives up a political position unless there's something massive going on. Doesn't exactly put her in a great position to step up to a seat in the Senate and especially to run for President.


    Though I could see Pfailin being boneheaded enough to think this was a powerful move and that she's too big for a piddly position like governor anymore.
