    If wanting to live with your Grandmother instead were the only issue, a court ordered loss of custody wouldn't be necessary. I'm suspecting Frances is tired of caretake/parenting her mother and finally old enough to push the situation. As someone who has been there/done that I gotta confess that I've been keeping an empathetic eye on Frances for years.

    What is the age of adult emancipation in the US? In England it is 18. I wonder whether Frances was prompted in part by a concern for the way her mother was handling her assets. Jezebel recently mentioned that Courtney proposed to get a mortgage on her daughter’s behalf.

    @cate3710: So really this comes across as more a gesture on Frances' part since she won't be under anyone's guardianship for much longer. I feel sorry for Courtney if she has indeed cleaned up her act. I hope it doesn't send her off the rails again.
