    Another blog posted comments from Sarah Palin's Facebook page that were truly heartbreaking -- people were lamenting that they took time off work and stood in the cold and the rain without getting to see her or have a book signed by her. They felt genuinely betrayed -- almost like they expected her to care about them. Newsflash, folks, she only cares that you shell out $29.99 for her book.

    I had a doctor grab my stomach pooch and tell me I needed to lose weight once. Then he gave me a pap smear, barely putting on any lube and pretty much shoving the speculum in there. I left the clinic in tears, but never reported him... and now I'm wishing I had.

    @The Plain People of Ireland (formerly cheerfulp is always...): Ugh, that sucks. Both of our experiences do highlight the importance of finding the right gynecologist for *you,* and meeting with him/her prior to any examinations to make sure you're comfortable. Lucky for me, one of my best friends is in med school to become an ob/gyn right now, so she'll be doing all my pap smears and baby deliveries as soon as she graduates!

    @Sarah Dove: But it seems like in the context of the song she might actually be talking about a monkey, is what I meant. I could be really naive, though, so feel free to explain why that's not a possibility. I just don't see how it makes sense to say "my teddy bear and racial slur."

    @Sarah Dove: I was thinking it might be a particular type of monkey, but it seems like it must not be. Like I said, I'm probably being willfully optimistic about this, but my first thought would be like, "oh, they needed an adjective to fit the beats, and maybe there are lots of adorable monkeys that kids find fun that are of the Nubian variety." And obviously it's super possible that that's not the case, I'm just saying I was hesitant to assume it was intentionally racist because it seems like such a bizarre context to throw a slur around. /Pollyanna moment

    @Triphena: I just read an article about it in the Seattle PI (online, obviously, since the print version folded), and the prosecution evidently talked at length about how the crime had all the hallmarks of a female, and a man wouldn't have done it in X or Y way. How bizarre.

    @Tippi Hedren: I think she did it as well. Her behavior immediately after it happened and her antics in the courtroom (prancing about smiling for the camera, giggling with her family...what the fuck? THIS IS A MURDER TRIAL) lead me to believe that she's either batshit crazy, overly confident that they'll never convict someone who looks like her or she's a sociopath incapable of feeling remorse (or sympathy). Even if she isn't guilty, at least show some fucking respect to the family of the girl who lost her life.

    @Mary McCarthyite: I think she had something to do with it. The mass email she sent the next day seemed guilty as hell. That said, her arrest and trial have been handled very, very poorly, and I certainly don't think the prosecution has come anywhere near proving her guilt.

    @whiskeylady: This is an important point to make. While I cannot say whether or not I think she's guilty (I am not on the jury, I have not heard all the evidence presented), I think it is crucial to acknowledge some of the issues in this case that prevent it from being a truly 'fair' trial.
    That said, a lack of a fair trial does not prove her 'innocence' any more or less than it disproves it.

    @Angela Hershberger: She confessed after 14hrs of interrogation in a language in which she wasn't fluent, and after the police told her she was HIV-positive and wouldn't get immediate treatment if she didn't confess. She also said she didn't confess, but they made her tell them what she would have done IF she had been there or some shit, and she alleges they beat her, which I find no problem believing.
